AUSTIN, Texas -- The Oklahoma soccer team fell in a 1-0 decision to Big 12 rival Texas on Sunday afternoon at the Mike A. Myers Soccer Complex. The Sooners (4-11-1, 1-5-0 Big 12) put forth a late-match surge against the Longhorns (11-4-2, 5-1-1 Big 12) but were unable to find the equalizer to send the match to overtime.

"We leave Austin disappointed," head coach Matt Potter said. "Consistency of performance and endeavor has been a constant challenge for our group. The manner of the goal that separated the two teams makes it all the more difficult to accept, given the opportunities we had to clear the ball."

Texas posted its lone goal of the match early when Marchelle Davis sent in a header in the 11th minute of play to give the Longhorns a 1-0 lead. Oklahoma continued to get several offensive looks throughout the first half of play, with Abby Hodgen, Rachel Ressler, Paige Jacobs and Shiloh Price all firing off shots for the Sooners. The two squads headed into half with a tied shot margin (4-4).

UT posted 10 shots throughout the second half to challenge the OU defense, but Sooner goalkeeper Kassadie Stade anchored Oklahoma's efforts to prevent the Longhorns from extending their lead. Stade picked up four saves throughout the game, including two in the last 15 minutes of play to maintain OU's hopes of an upset bid.

OU's offense found a rhythm late in the match as the Sooners hunted for an equalizer to send the match to overtime. Price and Madison Saliba fired off a total of three shots on goal in the final four minutes of play, but Texas goalkeeper Abby Smith made saves on all three to keep the Sooners off the board and set the final tally at 1-0 in favor of UT.

"Texas did what it needed to do and we are left to reflect on another hard lesson," Potter said. "We move on to next week and the idea and importance of Senior Day."

OU will host its regular season home finale next Friday night at the OU Soccer Complex, welcoming Big 12 frontrunner West Virginia to Norman. The match is set for a 7 p.m. CT start on Oct. 15, with a live broadcast available through Sooner Sports TV.
