NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma (19-11, 11-7 Big 12) tipped off Sunday knowing a win would lock up a No. 2 seed for the Big 12 tournament. It walked off the court awaiting a tie-breaking draw.

Kansas (19-11, 8-10 Big 12) hit a season-high eight of 18 3-pointers as the Jayhawks beat the Sooners 83-77 at in front of 8,381 in the crowd for the regular season finale.

"I thought Kansas played incredibly inspired and we didn't," OU head coach Sherri Coale said. "We were as flat as could be. We knew what was on the line, we knew what was at stake and I can't explain it. I wish I could."

Oklahoma and Texas A&M tied for second in the Big 12 standings, but losses by both teams Sunday forced a fifth-rule tiebreaker -- a draw held a the conference office -- that OU won.

The Sooners will play the winner of 7-seed Oklahoma State and 10-seed Missouri Thursday at 5 p.m. in a Big 12 quarterfinal.

KU forward Aishah Sutherland scored a team-high 23 points, but was scoreless the final 13 minutes after Coale switched defensive assignments and had freshman Sharane Campbell guard the senior.

Campbell forced Sutherland to foul out with three minutes to play. By then, the damage was done. Kansas' double-digit lead was chipped to only six as the Jayhawks countered a furious rally by making 17 of their final 20 free throws.

It was Kansas head coach Bonnie Henrickson's first victory over Oklahoma.

OU's Aaryn Ellenberg scored a game-high 27 points, though she made only one of six 3-point attempts as the Sooners shot a combined 2-for-10 from beyond the arc.

"Kansas averages three 3's a game, I believe," Coale said. "The way we defended them was according to the way they've played. I think that strategy was correct.

"You have to make free throws. When you make free throws you win the game. It's that simple. Obviously, they made a lot of free throws down the stretch as we were trying to foul and get back in it. But, up until that point we had plenty of opportunities."

Morgan Hook scored 17 points but struggled elsewhere in the offense, counting zero assists to six turnovers. Whitney Hand recorded her second straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

It was supposed to be a celebration for Oklahoma's lone senior, Jelena Cerina, playing her final regular season home game. Cerina scored OU's first points of each half and finished with six total, but her post-game tribute was subdued by the loss.
