Oklahoma Head Coach Sherri Coale
Opening Statement:
“I thought Kansas played incredibly inspired and we didn't. We were as flat as could be. We knew what was on the line, we knew what was at stake and I can't explain it. I wish I could. Ultimately when a team comes out and doesn't play inspired it is on the head coach. So, I have to do a better job.”
On what changes will be made before the conference tournament:
“Obviously I have got to change something. Typically when conference season ends there is a break of fresh air that blow sin to go to conference tournament and everyone is Even-Steven again. It is a clean slate. It has been a long time since we have ended our conference season playing the way we played today. So I don't know what that will be like.”
On OU's defensive strategy:
“Kansas averages three 3's a game, I believe. The way we defended them was according to the way they've played. I think that strategy was correct. They took away our 3's which gave us driving lanes. We had to get to the rim. You have to make free throws. When you make free throws you win the game. It's that simple. Obviously they made a lot of free throws down the stretch as we were trying to foul and get back in it. But, up until that point we had plenty of opportunities. We didn't play as fired up -- bottom line. We didn't get 50-50 balls, we didn't cover for each other on defense and we didn't crash the offensive boards. We got blocked out and they were physical and we were done with it. They wanted it worse than we did. Simple.”
Oklahoma Sophomore Guard Morgan Hook
On Kansas' physical play:
“I don't think their physicality was anything more than any other team we've played. We just weren't as inspired as they were.”
On what needs to change before next game:
“Obviously, we need to go out with energy from the beginning. We can't start out slow or the rest of the game will be slow. It's what we've talked about all season, just coming out with energy.
“It's a choice that we have to make. Before the game in the locker room, we were all up and everything, so we thought we were going to come out with great energy. We came out and got down 10-3 in the first interval and never really fully bounced back.”
