NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team celebrated the 2011 season Friday evening with its annual awards banquet. Team members were joined by the coaching staff, support staff and parents to reflect on the squad's season.
Senior right side hitter Suzy Boulavsky was named the team's most valuable player, while senior Carlee Roethlisberger was named most improved. Junior María Fernanda earned the Sooner Award.
The team finished the 2011 with a 21-12 overall record and 8-8 mark in the Big 12 Conference. The Sooners graduate five seniors in Brianne Barker, Boulavsky, Kylie Cowan, Caitlin Higgins and Roethlisberger.
Oklahoma advanced to its third consecutive NCAA Championship and fifth in the last six years. Barker earned her second consecutive All-America third team honor, while Boulavsky and sophomore Sallie McLaurin were named to the All-America honorable mention team.
Barker and Boulavsky earned first team All-Central Region honors from the AVCA, while McLaurin was named to the All-Central Region honorable mention team. Boulavsky also became the first player in program history to earn first team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
