Potter Talks Practice, Releases Spring Slate

NORMAN, Okla. -- Sooner soccer fans will have their first glimpse of the 2012 team on March 30 as Oklahoma released its spring schedule for the offseason. First-year head coach Matt Potter visited with SoonerSports.com recently to discuss his transition and the team.
The team features a majority of the starting lineup from the 2011 campaign and several of the starters from the 2010 team that made the program's second appearance in the NCAA tournament.
"I am really excited about the energy of the team and because the energy has been good, we've been able to be productive," said Potter following Thursday's morning practice. "So, obviously in the fall, we want to be exciting to watch and that will get people invested in us and want to come watch us play. That's our big goal. We've been working a lot and working hard and I am really pleased with where they are at right now."
Potter comes from Washington State where he spent the last nine seasons and won 88 games and made three NCAA tournament appearances. Potter brought goalkeeper coach Graeme Abel from Pullman to Norman, marking the assistant's second stint on the Sooners' staff (2008-2009).
Potter also recently hired Kacey White to his staff, who was a midfielder on the U.S. National Team from 2006-2010 and won a National Championship with North Carolina in 2003. White recently was an assistant on the staffs at SMU and Texas Tech.
The Sooners increased their practice sessions on Monday, which now includes up to 20 hours a week, in preparation for the spring slate. The offseason scheduled gets started on Friday, March 30 at home against Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. The Sooners will also host Arkansas on Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Both games are free and open to the public at the OU Soccer Complex.
The two home contests are joined by a pair of road games at Tulsa on April 14 and at SMU on April 28.
