DENTON, Texas - An uncharacteristic Oklahoma volleyball team committed 30 attack errors and hit a season-low .153 clip as the 17th-ranked Sooners (4-1) fell to Cincinnati 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 24-26, 18-25) on Friday afternoon at the North Texas Invitational.
Suzy Boulavsky led OU with 15 kills, while Caitlin Higgins added 10 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double this year. Brianne Barker had her third double-double this year with 40 assists and 11 digs. Maria Fernanda added 17 digs.
Oklahoma averaged 2.85 blocks per set entering the match and only managed four total blocks in the four-set loss. Cincinnati dropped 12.0 blocks and hit .239 as a team.
Cincinnati's Jordanne Scott led the way with a match-high 19 kills, and Missy Harpenau added 15 for the Bearcats (3-3).
Despite forcing four ties in the opening set, the Sooners were unable to take the lead and dropped the set 25-20. Oklahoma battled in the second set, leading 16-12 before the Bearcats stormed back to tie the set at 16-all. After trading rallies down the stretch, Oklahoma pulled ahead 25-24 on a Tara Dunn kill and won the set on a UC attack error.
Oklahoma held a sizeable 13-9 lead in the third set but saw Cincinnati go on a 6-0 run to go ahead 15-13. After the Bearcats led 22-19, the Sooners fought to tie the set at 24-all, but Oklahoma was unable to come away with the win as the Bearcats took the frame 26-24.
Cincinnati jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set and never looked back to win the final frame 25-18 and take the match 3-1.
The Sooners return to action Saturday morning at 11 a.m. CT against host North Texas. OU closes out the tournament at 4:30 p.m. CT against Sam Houston State.
