Men's Tennis Announces 2011 Fall Schedule

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 2011 men's tennis fall tournament schedule was announced Monday by the University of Oklahoma Vice President/Athletics Director Joe Castiglione and head coach John Roddick.

The Sooners will compete in seven nationwide tournaments this fall and will also host the inaugural OU Invitational in Oct.

"It's going to be a good fall with the guys playing in a lot of Challengers and Futures, which is always exciting," John Roddick said. "The All-American is not too far away and adds to a really good fall schedule. We will keep adding more and more Futures to the schedule as we go. The guys are excited about this year's fall schedule and the opportunities ahead."

Roddick's squad starts off the season at the Baylor Intercollegiate, which takes place in Waco, Texas, on Sept. 23-25.

From there the Sooners turn their attention to the ITA All-American Championships, held on the University of Tulsa campus on Oct. 1-9.

OU then hosts the inaugural OU Invitational from Oct. 14-16, while Sooners will head to Mansfield, Texas, for the Futures tournament at the Mansfield Country Club, which takes place from Oct. 15-22.

"With our facility we need to host tournaments and there is not a ton of tournaments in the area. It's going to be a really solid tournament for us. It's always nice when you don't have to travel and we are excited to host it."

Following the Invitational and Futures event, the Sooners travel back up I-44 to Tulsa to compete in the 2011 USTA/ITA Central Region Championships on Oct. 21-25, where 18 schools in the Central Region send their best to qualify for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships.

Last year, OU's Ionut Beleleu defeated fellow Sooner Costin Paval in the Central Region Finals to earn a spot in the prestigious Indoor Championships. The National Indoor Championships will be held on Nov. 3-6 at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.

The Sooners end the fall season in Tennessee at the Knoxville Challenger, Nov. 5-6.
