NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team starts the 2011 season ranked No. 6 nationally in rankings provided Tuesday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA). The team was also picked to be No. 2 in the Midwest Region preseason ranking.
The men's team is coming off its most successful season in program history. The Sooners finished fifth at the NCAA National Championships, first at the NCAA Midwest Regional and third at the Big 12 Championship.
OU returns all major contributors, including four athletes who earned All-Midwest Region honors. Kevin Schwab became Oklahoma's fifth All-American. Schwab, George Alex and Kevin Williams earned All-Big 12 honors. Four freshmen and one junior college transfer join the 2011 team.
The 2011 cross country season begins this Saturday, in Tulsa, Okla., at the Hurricane Cross Country Festival.
