NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's cross country program begins the 2011 season in ranked second in the Midwest Region rankings provided by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA).
The Oklahoma men's squad is coming off its most successful season in program history that saw the team finish fifth at the NCAA National Championships, first at the NCAA Midwest Regional and third at the Big 12 Championship.
OU returns all major contributors, including four athletes who earned All-Midwest Region honors. Kevin Schwab, George Alex and Kevin Williams earned All-Big 12 honors last season and Schwab became Oklahoma's fifth All-American.
Four freshmen, Dayton McVicker, Brandon Doughty, Daniel Mazar and Dan Schubert, and junior college transfer, Josh Gracia, round out the 2011 team.
The 2011 cross country season begins this Saturday, in Tulsa, Okla., at the Hurricane Cross Country Festival.
