NORMAN, Okla. -- First-year Oklahoma head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger announced his team's 14-game non-conference schedule today, a slate that features nine home dates (two of them exhibitions), three games Thanksgiving week at the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif., visits from Arkansas and Oral Roberts, an All-College Classic matchup against Houston and a contest at Cincinnati.
"It's a good schedule from the standpoint that it will really help prepare us for Big 12 play," said Kruger, who was hired April 1. "We've got some tough games on the road with the 76 Classic in Anaheim -- a very good field there -- and Cincinnati. The home schedule is highlighted by the game against Arkansas. That's a team that will come here and play extremely hard and well under Coach (Mike) Anderson."
The Sooners open Nov. 1 with an exhibition game against Northeastern (Okla.) State and follow with another exhibition Nov. 6 against Washburn. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 11, with a game against Idaho State that will be followed by a home contest versus Coppin State a week later.
OU hits the road for Nov. 24, 25 and 27 games at the 76 Classic. Matchups for the tournament have not been announced yet, but the other seven teams in the field are Boston College, New Mexico, Saint Louis, Santa Clara, UC Riverside, Villanova and Washington State.
Kruger's squad will return home for three straight games at Lloyd Noble Center against Sacramento State (Dec. 2), Oral Roberts (Dec. 8) and Arkansas (Dec. 10) before matching up against Houston in the All-College Classic in Oklahoma City (Dec. 17).
The Sooners host South Carolina State Dec. 21 and then go back on the road for a Dec. 29 contest against Cincinnati off campus at U.S. Bank Arena.
The non-conference schedule concludes with a Dec. 31 home contest against Northwestern State (La.).
"November 1 seems like a long way away, but it will be here before we know it," said Kruger. "Our team is excited for the season and we hope our fans are, too."
Start times will be announced at a later date. For ticket information, contact the OU Athletics Ticket Office by phone at (800) 456-4668 or by email at outickets@ou.edu.
