From CBS Sports: "If I were forced to choose a number one team at gunpoint like I am now, I would have to agree with most people and go with Oklahoma. The Big 12 just got a little easier to navigate now that Nebraska is gone and there's no longer a conference championship game to get through. Texas is coming off of a..." Since the first NFL draft in 1936, 346 Sooners have been selected. Oklahoma's 346 all-time picks rank OU first in the Big 12 and fourth overall nationally. Forty-two Sooners have been selected in the first round (including a program-record four in 2010). Oklahoma 2011 NFL Draft Central | OU Draft Picks | Notes
OU QUARTERBACK FACTORY?
Dennis Dodd of CBS: "Oklahoma enters 2011 as a likely preseason No. 1 in some poll or another. Jones is a big -- though, not particularly vocal -- part of the quest. Just another reason why Oklahoma might be one of the more unknown quarterback factories. Since 1996, only USC and Florida have had as many Heisman..." Jones Next Heisman Contender at OU QB Factory - CBS Sports
From ESPN: "Nelson was one of the Sooners' top recruits in the 2010 class, and played very little last year, but coach Bob Stoops says he'll have to get Nelson on the field somehow this year. For now he backs up All-Big 12 mainstay Travis Lewis, but you'll see No. 7 plenty this fall. After a recent scrimmage, Stoops called him..." Corey Nelson Among Surprise Big 12 Spring Risers - ESPN
From ESPN: "With nine starters back on offense including quarterback Landry Jones and AP First-Team All-American receiver Ryan Broyles, simply put, the Sooners are loaded on that side of the ball. Last season, Jones led the Big 12 in passing yards (4,278) and touchdown passes (38). He also holds seven school records..." College Football Live Poll: Oklahoma is No. 1 - ESPN
Dave Sittler of the Tulsa World: "Those who argue you can't win a national title with a tandem of tailbacks sharing the load obviously don't know their college football history. And space doesn't allow for a history lesson today. It's also poppycock to argue that a team with a pass-happy offense can't be in the BCS hunt. What was..." From College Football News: "One of college football's elite head coaches, Stoops has produced winner after winner despite the constant battles with Texas in the nasty Big 12 South, and not helped by a parade of upwardly mobile assistant coaches flowing through the program. No, there hasn't been a national title in more..." Stoops One of College Football's Elite - College Football News
Guerin Emig of the Tulsa World: "Suppose there's a chance someone other than Oklahoma will be college football's "team to beat" out of the 2011 gate. It's looking pretty slight, though. "When all is said and written come August, the Sooners should be firmly entrenched as college football's consensus No. 1 approaching..." Sooners Headed for No. 1, What do They Think? - Tulsa World
Jake Trotter of the Oklahoman: "The hard-hitting sophomore linebacker from Dallas put together the best spring of any Sooner on the roster. Because he plays behind Travis Lewis at weak-side linebacker, getting Nelson on the field regularly will require some creativity from defensive coordinator Brent Venables. But whether..." The Red team will be eating a steak dinner this week after posting a 20-14 win over the White in Oklahoma's annual Red/White spring game. Members of the losing team will spend that same meal dining on hot dogs. Drew Allen quarterbacked the winning team, completing 16-of-29 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown and one INT: Blog

From ESPN: "Lewis is the headliner, but make no mistake: This group is pretty stout. It's by far the best group of linebackers in the Big 12. Lewis has topped 100 tackles in each of his three seasons on the outside, and should do it once again in 2011. Behind him is a highly recruited player that wasn't able to really contribute as a..." OU Strongest Position LB, Questions in Secondary - ESPN
John Shinn of the Norman Transcript: "The days of Oklahoma handing the ball to a specific running back 35 times a game have passed. It's done by committee now. It takes at least two to handle the rigors of the job. Going three or four deep, however, makes the situation even better. OU has spent the spring trying to..." Guerin Emig of the Tulsa World: "What is it that Bell has to learn? "I've got a lot of footwork to do," he said. "With all of my reads, I"ve got to quicken everything up timing-wise." He's more comfortable with the faster speed of college football than he was last fall. But he's not there yet. "It's coming in bits and pieces," Bell..." Jake Trotter of the Oklahoman: "Frank Alexander and Ronnell Lewis have all but solidified their starting spots at defensive end. After them? Ends coach Bobby Jack Wright said junior David King has separated from the pack as the "third guy." But after that, it's wide open. Freshman Geneo Grissom has been battling an..." The Big 12 Conference and ABC/ESPN announced today that the Oklahoma at Oklahoma State football game will be played Dec. 3, with a starting time of either 2:30 p.m., or 7 p.m. The time will be announced at a later date. Other games on the Oklahoma schedule will be announced when the conference and its television partners have solidified dates.
This will mark the second consecutive year that the Bedlam game has been played in Stillwater, a function of the change in the Big 12's schedule rotation. Several teams in the league are playing back-to-back games in the same location as the schedule adjusts to 10 members. Texas Tech and Iowa State will play in Norman in back-to-back seasons.
Jake Trotter of the Oklahoman: "Playing on a bum wheel, Finch was still pretty special last season. In his debut, he rushed for 92 yards on 16 carries against Iowa State. He added 59 yards against Missouri and another 59 against Colorado in relief of starter DeMarco Murray. Finch's shifty style was so effective, that then..." From the Orlando Sentinel: "Oklahoma fans were more than happy to welcome Ryan Broyles back for another season. Six hours shy of graduating, the junior wide receiver announced his decision to return to the Sooners' program rather than leave early for the NFL. One of the top receivers in the nation, Broyles had 131..." Q&A With OU Receiver Ryan Broyles - Orlando Sentinel
Earlier today, we posted the following interview with sophomore LB Corey Nelson from after Saturday's scrimmage:

Jake Trotter of the Oklahoman: "Right now, OU's starting secondary is Hurst and Lynn at cornerback, and Colvin and Javon Harris at safety. Harris is a key piece to the defensive backfield, if for no other reason, he's the only returning safety with any game experience. "He's a smart player," Martinez said. "He's picked up..." From the Lincoln Journal-Star: "The 50-year-old Stoops could have the best team in the nation as we speak. Oklahoma returns 29 players with starting experience, including seasoned quarterback Landry Jones, tough and speedy wide receiver Ryan Broyles and savvy linebacker Travis Lewis. "At the end of the day..." Stoops Brings Wisdom to Husker Clinic - Lincoln Journal-Star
