NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma and the University of Iowa have both accepted invitations to play in the Insight Bowl on December 30 at 8 p.m. (MT) at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
The No. 19 Sooners will make their 45th bowl appearance and have played the Hawkeyes one time in program history, a 21-6 win on Sept. 15, 1979, in a game that saw current Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops play as a freshman defensive back for the Hawkeyes.
Oklahoma (9-3, 6-3) finished the season fourth in the Big 12 while Iowa (7-5, 4-4) finished fourth in the Legends division of the Big 10.
The game is OU's second appearance in the Insight Bowl and Iowa's second consecutive trip to the bowl. The Hawkeyes defeated Big 12 representative Missouri 27-24 in the 2010 edition of the game while OU lost to BYU 31-6 in 1994 when the bowl was called the Copper Bowl and held in Tucson, Ariz.
Tickets for Oklahoma's Insight Bowl match-up versus Iowa are on sale now through the Oklahoma ticket office. The cost of the tickets is $67 for lower level tickets and $40 for upper level tickets. Bowl tickets will be assigned within an official OU team section. Tickets will be allocated in priority point order within annual giving levels at a later date and will ship via UPS the week of December 12. Tickets can be purchased
online or by phone at (800) 456-GoOU or (405) 325-2424.
The Sooners have an all-time bowl record of 26-17-1, with wins in their past two bowl games, while Iowa is 14-10-1, having won their last three bowl games under head coach Kirk Ferentz. A win in the Insight Bowl would give Oklahoma its 33rd 10-win season, a number that leads the nation.
The two teams had one common opponent this season, Iowa State. The Sooners defeated the Cyclones 26-6 on Nov. 26 while the Hawkeyes fell to their in-state rivals in triple overtime, 44-41, on Sept. 10.
