NORMAN, Okla. – With the field set for the 2011 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association released the final list of All-Region honorees on Monday. The University of Oklahoma men's team paved the way nationally with all seven of its runners earning All-Midwest Region honors. The Big 12 Conference had 50 student-athletes earn All-Region honors and 450 student-athletes nationwide earned the accolade.
The fifth-ranked men's team qualified for a third straight NCAA Championship by finishing second at the meet. The Sooners had all seven runners finish in the top 25. Kevin Schwab took second overall for a second consecutive year, running the course in 31 minutes, 22.10 second. Bill Kogel, Jeremy Sudbury, George Alex, Kevin Williams, Eric Harasyn and Aaron Sherf also earned All-Regional honors along with Schwab.
Junior Jessica Engel qualified for the Championships as an individual. Engel ran a time of 21:04.33 to finish fifth to earn her first regional honor.
Indiana State will host the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Monday, Nov. 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
The men's race will begin at approximately 12:08 p.m. ET, followed by the women's race at approximately 12:58 p.m. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon to 1:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com. In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, December 18, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. ET on CBS HD.
