NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma men's cross country team finished third and the women's team placed ninth at the 2011 Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday.  

Oklahoma was led by Aaron Sherf on the men's side, finishing 24th in 30 minutes 20.2 seconds. Jessica Engel led the women's team finishing in eighth place (20:27.9).

Eric Harasyn finished just behind Sherf in 25th (30:20.5).Frezer Legesse placed 28th (30:25.5).  Redshirt freshman Ryan Poland competed in his second meet of the year placing 46th (30:53.0) and Daniel Nicolls rounded out the Sooner finishers, clocking a time of 31:18.5 in 67th place.

Molly Ferguson was the second finisher for the Sooners as she crossed the finish line in 57th place (21:59.9). She was followed by Kelly Waters in 61st (22:03.3), Hilary Krein in 65th (22:07.8), Natalie Crain in 66th (22:08.1), Kelsey Brown in 132nd (23:10.5) and Annie Martin in 135th (23:11.4).

The Sooner men finished behind No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 15 Arkansas.  Cam Levins of Southern Utah was the individual winner in the men's side clocking in at 29:13.8.  Texas won the women's race with Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Weber State closing out the top five.  Silje Fjortoft of SMU won the women's event with a time of 19:44.2.

The next competition for the Sooners once again features both teams as they travel to College Station, Texas for the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 29.
