Kenny Mossman: "The Sooners have won seven conference football championships over the last 11 seasons. In the BCS world, that's rarified air. A good friend of mine, a Division I college basketball coach, once made a simple, yet profound assessment of sports when he said, "Winning is hard, losing is easy. I don't know if a lot of people realize just how hard it is to win."

OKLAHOMA ALL-AMERICANS

Oklahoma has produced more consensus All-Americans (74) than any other program in the modern era of college football. The NCAA announced that junior receiver Ryan Broyles (Norman, Okla.) and senior safety Quinton Carter (Las Vegas, Nev.) were consensus All-Americans for the 2010 season. Players designated as consensus All-Americans must be listed on the most first-team units among All-Americans who play their position.

74 OU Consensus All-Americans | OU No. 1 in Modern Era

Oklahoma has also produced 31 unanimous All-Americans in the program's history (as designated by the NCAA and named by all five official selectors: FWAA, AFCA, AP, Walter Camp and Sporting News). No school has more. Notre Dame is tied with the Sooners at 31 followed by Ohio State (29), Southern Cal (26), Michigan (25), Texas (22), Nebraska (21), Alabama (18), Miami (15) and Pittsburgh (13).

Oklahoma's football team celebrated the 2010 season and its seventh Big 12 Championship during a banquet Friday night in Norman. The event was held at the NCED Conference Center and Hotel. The event celebrated the record-setting accomplishments of the team and its all-conference and All-America players, but also included several awards that had not been previously announced:

FINCH OUT FOR BOWL GAME
Roy Finch, Oklahoma's freshman running back, will miss the upcoming Fiesta Bowl due to a recurrence of a stress fracture injury in his left foot suffered during Friday's practice. Team physicians performed surgery Saturday to insert two pins. OU Head Coach Bob Stoops said Finch will be sidelined for 6-7 weeks, but is expected back in time for the team's spring workouts.

Friday's injury occurred in a non-contact drill. Finch missed the first five games of the season with a similar injury. In eight games, Finch rushed 85 times for 398 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 49 yards. Finch's absence will mean more playing time for senior Mossis Madu and freshman Brennan Clay. Madu had 58 carries for 251 yards and one touchdown. He also had 11 receptions for 66 yards. Clay had 36 rushes for 130 yards and three receptions for 13.

Oklahoma junior receiver Ryan Broyles earned a spot on the Sporting News All-America team announced Wednesday. As a recap, below are the five All-America teams recognized officially by the NCAA (this is important because inclusion on three usually indicates a consensus All-America honor while inclusion on all five usually designates a player as a unanimous selection). The NCAA will make an official announcement on consensus All-Americans.

Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones has won the Sammy Baugh Award as college football's top passer. The honor is presented annually by The Touchdown Club of Columbus (Ohio). Jones, a sophomore from Artesia, N.M., led the Sooners to their seventh Big 12 Championship while passing for 4,239 yards and 35 touchdowns. He completed 65.3% of his passes and threw just 11 interceptions while facing three of the top 15 teams among the NCAA's pass efficiency defense leaders.

STOOPS ON KEVIN WILSON
Oklahoma Head Football Coach Bob Stoops released the following statement today regarding the hiring of OU Offensive Coordinator Kevin Wilson as the head football coach at Indiana:

"We want to thank Kevin for his role in helping our program win six of the seven Big 12 Championships we've accumulated over the last 12 seasons. His attention to detail, innovation and ability to develop players to their fullest ability have helped us remain a strong program. Our offenses have been effective because they're multiple and dynamic, and yet loyal to the basic football principles of being physical and fundamentally sound.

"By going to Indiana, Kevin returns to a region of the country and a conference that he knows very well. He'll have a solid plan for the football program there and the dedication required to carry it out. Kevin, Angie and the entire Wilson family leave with our gratitude for a job well done with the Sooners, and our best wishes for continued success with the Hoosiers."

Stoops said he will address the process for filling the position and the coaching arrangement for the upcoming Fiesta Bowl later this week or the first part of next week.

TICKETS FOR TROOPS
Again this bowl season, OU fans have an opportunity to provide tickets for members of the United States Military. Due to the overwhelming success and generosity during last year's Sun Bowl, the Tickets for Troops program is back for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

The program allows fans to purchase tickets for the Sooners' appearance in the Fiesta Bowl against the Connecticut Huskies on behalf of the troops. OU Athletics Department Officials will then distribute the tickets free of charge to military personnel. Tickets for Troops was launched last year prior to the Sun Bowl.

Tickets for Troops can be added to an existing order or added at the time of purchase. The tickets also can be purchased and donated by individuals who do not plan to attend the game. Tickets are $190 or $155 each and orders will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability. The ticket office can be reached call (800) 456-GoOU or (405) 325-2424 or online here.

Monday, December 6 | Sooner Bowl Central

Oklahoma won its seventh Big 12 Championship with Saturday's 23-20 win over Nebraska at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. OU has won those seven over the last 11 years. Bob Stoops is in his 12th season with the Sooners. No other Big 12 team has won more than three Big 12 championships.

OU has won the seven Big 12 titles with six different quarterbacks - Josh Heupel, Nate Hybl, Jason White, Paul Thompson, Sam Bradford and Landry Jones.

Oklahoma has won 43 conference titles in 95 years of membership in various conferences. That works out to one every 2.2 seasons.

Ryan Broyles, just a junior, now holds eight of the nine major receiving records (receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches in a game, season and career) at OU. The only one he does not hold is touchdown receptions in a game. That mark stands at four. Broyles has had three in five different game during his career.

With his interception against Nebraska, Travis Lewis upped his career total to eight. That is tied with Sam Allen (1951-52) for the most career picks by an OU linebacker.

Over its last two games, against ranked opponents Oklahoma State (away) and Nebraska (neutral), Oklahoma surrendered an average of just 133.5 rushing yards and only 16.0 first downs (5.5 via the rush). Also during that span the Sooners have forced seven turnovers (three against OSU, four against NU).

Oklahoma will be making its 44th bowl appearance, its fifth in the Fiesta Bowl and its eighth in a BCS game. This appearance extends the school record consecutive streak of bowl appearances to 12 years, which coincides with Stoops' tenure.
