NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones has won the Sammy Baugh Award as college football's top passer. The honor is presented annually by The Touchdown Club of Columbus (Ohio).
Jones, a sophomore from Artesia, N.M., led the Sooners to their seventh Big 12 Championship while passing for 4,239 yards and 35 touchdowns. He completed 65.3% of his passes and threw just 11 interceptions while facing three of the top 15 teams among the NCAA's pass efficiency defense leaders.
The award was first presented in 1959 and has been held by legendary passers including Steve Young, John Elway, Bob Griese and fellow Sooner QB Sam Bradford (2008).
The Sammy Baugh Award will be presented during the Touchdown Club of Columbus 56th Annual Sports Banquet scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Lifestyle Communities Pavilion in Downtown Columbus.
