NORMAN, Okla. -- The Sooner soccer team added another program first to the 2010 season as it posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year.

It marks the first such award for the Sooners, who were one of six Big 12 programs to be honored by the NSCAA (Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma State).  Click here for a complete list.

The soccer program has a long history of racking up acadmic honors in its 15-year history.  In 2010, senior Lauren Alkek, junior Michelle Alexander and sophomore Katharine Nutman were named to CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-District VI second team while sophomore Dria Hampton was voted to the third team.

The four selections marked a program best, topping the three that were honored in 2007. OU has been represented on the academic all-district team in each of the last eight years and has multiple honorees in five of those seasons. Alexander was named to the third team a year ago.

In addition, Alexander, Alkek, Nutman and Hampton were also named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team along with senior Tiana Dickson. The five honorees marks the seventh straight season that OU has placed at least five student-athletes on the first team. Alkek and Dickson are three-time honorees while Alexander was named to the team for the second time in her career. Hampton and Nutman made their first appearance in 2010.
