NORMAN, Okla. -- OU senior forward Whitney Palmer was named to the 2010 All-Big 12 soccer preseason team on Wednesday as voted on by the conference's coaches.
The Plano, Texas, native is the first Sooner to be selected to the preseason team twice in her career after appearing on the list last season.
In 2009, Palmer became the first player in program history to lead the team outright in goals scored in three consecutive seasons after finishing the year with a school-record 15 scores. That total ranked 12th nationally and second in the Big 12 Conference.
The explosive play led to her selection on the All-Big 12 first team and the All-Region second team. She is one of three Sooners to be honored by the conference in three seasons (Logan Womack and Lauren MacIver).
In 2008, Palmer tallied eight goals and was named an All-Big 12 second team honoree. As a true freshman, she was named to the All-Big 12 Newcomer team with six goals scored.
Palmer enters her senior campaign five goals short of tying Oklahoma's all-time leader goal-scorer in Womack, who tallied 34 in her four-year Sooner career. Palmer already holds five OU records and ranks in the top five in six others.
The Sooners host Northern Colorado in the lone preseason game on the 2010 slate on Friday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at the OU Soccer Complex. Admission is free to all fans in attendance.
