NORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma Cross Country head coach Martin Smith and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Athletic Director Joe Castiglione announced Wednesday the schedule for the upcoming 2010 Oklahoma cross country season which includes three in-state competitions, one of which is the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 30 in Stillwater. The 2010 slate is comprised of 10 competitions in seven states in a span of over two months.

OU opens the season on Sept. 4 at the Tulsa Hurricane Festival before traveling further up I-44 on Sept. 18 for the Missouri Stampede Invitational in Joplin, Mo., on Sept. 18. The program will split as it closes out the month of September on Sept. 25 as athletes compete in both the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., and the OSU Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater. Both meets typically feature fields comprised of a number of nationally ranked programs.

October opens with the second annual Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 2 before wrapping up the regular season on Oct. 16 at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and Pre-Nationals at Terre Haute, Ind.

The Oklahoma program will remain in state for the Big 12 Championships as the conference meet is held Oct. 30 in Stillwater. Both teams are looking for a jump in the standings from 2009 when the men finished a program best third and the women finished 12th.
