Allen to Focus on Family

NORMAN, Okla. - Men's basketball player Orlando Allen said today that he will forgo his senior season at the University of Oklahoma to focus on his family.

Allen, a 6-10, 290-pound junior center who became a father last month, said, "My plan is to graduate this summer and move forward in my life by getting a job and supporting my family.

"I had an overall great experience at OU. I really enjoyed the fan support and I thank my coaches for the opportunity they gave me to come to OU and make something of my life. And I wish my teammates the best in everything they do."

Allen averaged 1.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in his nine games this year. He played a total of 63 minutes on the season and made four of his eight field goal attempts.

A Cincinnati, Ohio, native, Allen transferred to OU from Paris (Texas) Junior College. Last year, his first as a Sooner, he averaged 1.8 points and 0.8 boards in his 19 outings.

Said OU head coach Jeff Capel, "I admire Orlando for doing what he feels is best for his family. Our staff supports his decision and we wish him and his family well as he moves on to the next phase of his life."
