Making its first appearance at the Super Six in program history, OU will start the meet on floor, determined in a draw by the NCAA following the evening preliminary session on Thursday.

SOONERS CLINCH FIRST SUPER SIX APPEARANCE
The Oklahoma women's gymnastics senior class was bound and determined not to let OU's NCAA Championships run end where it had in its nine previous appearances, nailing three crucial floor routines that stamped OU's first trip to the Super Six Team Finals in program history.
Oklahoma posted a team tally of 196.550 in its third-place finish, securing the final spot of the afternoon session into Friday's six-team meet that decides the national champion.
No. 1 seed UCLA won the afternoon qualifying session with its 196.875 total, while nine-time NCAA champion Utah placed second (196.625).
Fellow Big 12 squad Nebraska placed fourth with a 196.175 tally, while Oregon State (196.050) and LSU (196.025) rounded out the team scoring.
OU improved to 25-2 this season by breaking program records with its highest bars and beam event scores at a NCAA Championships competition.
The Sooners hit 23-of-24 routines on the night but none were more important than the final three from the senior trio that pushed Oklahoma past its NCAA Championships roadblock.
After OU posted its only fall of the night in the third spot on its final event, the group closed the afternoon preliminary session with three routines of 9.875 or better, ensuring that OU remained in the running for its first national title.
“Out of the gate, I was nervous all day up until the very last routine,” said head coach K.J. Kindler. “I have a lot of faith in my team, but my feelings overcame me. I tried to stay calm and show the confidence I have in them. We started off rough on the vault, not doing our best. I felt like we left a lot of gymnastics out on the floor and I think we can do a much better job tomorrow night. We can be more precise in what we're doing.
“I think in some instances, we tried too hard, but it is very important for this team to make the Super Six. It was a big dream and now it is reality. We are very excited for tomorrow night.”
Kindler is the only coach in NCAA history to lead two different programs to the Super Six, a format that was instituted at the 1993 NCAA Championships. The five-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and 2005 NACGCW Coach of the Year led Iowa State to its first appearance in the team finals in 2006.
Hollie Vise qualified to Saturday's individual event finals where she will compete on both the uneven bars and floor exercise. Even more remarkable considering Vise was making her NCAA Championships debut on floor as a senior in Thursday's competition.
The Dallas native garnered first-team All-America distinction on bars and floor and second-team honors on beam. Joining Vise as All-Americans are Kristin Smith (beam – second team, floor – second team), Megan Ferguson (bars – second team) and Jackie Flanery (floor – second team).
OU's seven total All-America honors are the most in a single season in program history.

What's at stake:
The top three teams from each semifinal will advance to the Super Six competition Friday, April 23 at 5 p.m. (CT). The top four individuals from each session in each event (plus ties) and in the all-around from Thursday's preliminary sessions will compete in the individual event competition Saturday, April 24 at 5 p.m. (CT).
Places 1-4 (plus ties) in each event and the all-around in each session of Thursday's competition are considered first-team All-Americans. Places 5-8 (and ties) garner second-team All-America status.

OU SET FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Sooners have arrived in Gainesville and are currently wrapping up their morning practice session inside the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the UF campus.
Oklahoma arrived at its host hotel yesterday afternoon after taking a bus from Orlando. The squad spent the evening relaxing before a team dinner that was catered to the hotel.
Select members of the OU squad will go through interviews with the local news outlets, while CBS is on hand filming their intro shoot with some of the Sooners.

Following the practice session, OU head coach K.J. Kindler and senior all-arounder Hollie Vise met with members of the media during an official NCAA press conference, along with representatives from Nebraska, Oregon State and Utah. Below is a transcript from Oklahoma's Q&A session:
OU Head Coach KJ Kindler:
Opening statement:
“I'd like to echo what Dan (Kendig) said about the gradtitude towards the University of Florida and its staff for what is shaping up to be a great week. We are excited to get out there and compete on podium tomorrow. Excited to showcase our sport to a great crowd. We feel very fortunate to be here. It is something that we work all season to accomplish. Advancing for the seventh straight year is a huge accomplishment. The doors are wide open. We have every opportunity at our fingertips and we'll have to see how we come out and compete tomorrow.”
On OU's goals in tomorrow's qualifying session:
“We've talked about it all year long. It's all about qualifying to that second night. This is a team that has that kind of confidence. They are expecting it from themselves. They aren't pressuring themselves to get it, because I feel that pressure comes from when you believe it's a whim and a prayer, whereas, I believe this team really feels like it's going to happen. I know that they are going to do their absolute best out there tomorrow. When we make that next step, it will be a huge step for our program.”
On the senior class:
Our senior class has been the leader of the ship. They have definitely taken the helm and guided their entire team – juniors, sophomores and freshman. They have shown how it is supposed to be done with class all year long. They have worked so incredibly hard, I couldn't ask for more effort from them. They have been examples inside and outside of the gym. They are a joy to be with and their teammates feel the same way.

On the NCAA Championships:
“We're really excited to be here. All season, we've prepared for this. We have done a great job of staying consistent. Coming off a regional win, I think that set us up really well. Our goal coming in is to advance to the Super Six. If we advance to Super Six, I think that we have a team that can possibly contend for a national title.”
On the difference between elite and collegiate competition:
“It's so much more team oriented. A lot of my Elite competitions were individual, so now the focus is one the team. Every teammate has a place in the system; no individual is greater than any other. The key is to all be working together, keep each other up and really cheer each other on.
“It's a completely different world. In college gymnastics, it's amazing how truly close you get to your teammates and how you push each other to become better.”
On what it would mean to advance to the Super Six:
“It would be unbelievable. I would feel honored to be a part of it, especially during my senior year. It would be a great way to end my career.”

OU FEATURED IN USA TODAY ARTICLE
With five national championships in the last eight years, it's not often that coach Mark Williams runs into a gymnastics team more skilled than his Oklahoma men's squad.
Let alone in his own gym.
But early this season, the Sooner women -- guided by K.J. Kindler -- gained bragging rights by getting to No. 1 while Williams' men were ranked third.
"The men's team is an amazing program and since I've been here, they have been at the top the entire time," senior Kristin Smith said "I think that's something that really motivates our program. We look at them and then we look at how we train and we're like, 'Why can't we be up there? We have everything that they have."'
With the national meets right around the corner, Oklahoma is in the mix for both men's and women's NCAA titles, with each team now ranked No. 2. The men open their nationals Thursday in West Point, N.Y. The women get started April 22 in Gainesville, Fla.

SOONERS ASSIST RED CROSS WITH BLOOD DRIVE
Despite already being recognized as the winner of the 2009-10 CHAMPS/Life Skills competition at the Max Weitzenhoffer Scholar-Athlete Breakfast on April 6, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics squad is still doing its part to reach out the community. The OU women's gymnasts, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, helped organize the OU Athletics blood drive, which took place at the McClendon Center for Intercollegiate Athletics on Monday and Tuesday.
The Challenging Athletic Minds for Personal Success (CHAMPS)/Life Skills Program focuses on five commitments that each NCAA Division I program is making in the growth and development of student-athletes: academic excellence, athletic excellence, personal development, community service, and career development.
“Community service is part of OU's mission in developing well-rounded individuals," said Carmen Tebbe, Assistant Director for Psychological Resources and Director of the CHAMPS/ Life Skills program. "We feel it benefits our student-athletes to have the experience of helping others, as well a provides us an opportunity to show our appreciation to the community that so greatly supports OU Athletics. The Women's Gymnastics squad has always been involved in community service. This year, they took it to another level and participated in almost every event offered and even developed some of their own community service efforts.”
This year alone, the group volunteered with the American Cancer Society, Children's Miracle Network, Susan G. Koman Race for a Cure, Special Spectators, Adopt-an-Angel.
The gymnasts also handed out candy during a Safe Trick-or-Treat event, brought in over 300 cans for the Thanksgiving Food Drive and helped organize the recent blood drive.
As a result, the squad won the CHAMPS/Life Skills competition by over 1000 points.
Individually, four OU women's gymnasts were honored for their individual efforts at the Scholar-Athlete breakfast. Jackie Flanery was one of four recipients of the Athletic Director's Leadership Award, while Hollie Vise and four other OU athletes received the Athletics Council Achievement Awards, given for overcoming obstacles to achieve academic success.
Heading the squad's community service efforts this season, Kristin Smith was recognized with the Athletics Council Service Awards for community service, while freshman Nitya Ramaswami was chosen as one of 10 freshmen to receive the Jay Myers Award for scholarship and athletics.

Another busy day for K.J. Kindler and the OU squad as the Sooners completed an array of interview requests before beginning practice around 1:45 this afternoon. Oklahoma gymnastics has become a media and fan favorite as Kindler opened the morning with appearances on a pair of local sports radio outlets, before an interview with ESPNU.
Jeff Latzke of The Associated Press attended yesterday's practice for a future story on the success of the OU men's and women's gymnastics programs, which both enter the NCAA Championships ranked in the top two in the country.

No. 4 seed Oklahoma will compete in the afternoon qualifying session of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. The seeds are determined by adding the regional qualifying score (RQS) and score from regional competition to determine a national qualyifing score (NQS). After listing them out 1 to 12 to determine the seedings, the NCAA prescribes the pairings 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12 in one session with the others in the alternate session.

SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL AWARDS ANNOUNCED
The NACGC/W announced its yearly award winners and the Sooners were featured prominently in the selections. Garnering South Central Region Coach of the Year honors was OU's K.J. Kindler. It was Kindler's third regional coaching honor and first at Oklahoma. Kindler was named the NCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006 while at Iowa State.
Joining Kindler on the awards podium were Oklahoma's Lou Ball and Tom Haley as Co-Assistant Coaches of the Year. The primary coaches on vault, bars and floor, the OU assistant coaching duo has guided the Sooners to 35 of a possible 39 team event titles on those three events during the 2010 season. Oklahoma ranks in the top four in the NCAA on vault (first), bars (second) and floor (fourth), while Jackie Flanery leads the nation on floor exercise with a RQS of 9.940.

SOONERS SNAG REGIONAL TITLE
The second-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics squad captured the NCAA Northeast Regional title at Penn State on Saturday night and in the process broke a school record with its sixth score of 197.000 or higher on the season.
“We had a lot of goals coming in and we met those goals,” said head coach K.J. Kindler. “One of our scoring goals was to hit a 197.000 which we met. I knew coming in that this was going to be one of the more difficult regions in the country. Travelling so far, with such great competition from Penn State, LSU and the rest of the Northeast region, we knew we had our work cut out for us. Overall, I thought they did a really good job of handling their bye's which allowed us to be successful.”
Oklahoma shined on the ever-challenging beam in its final rotation, sealing its first regional title since 2006 with a 49.475 on the apparatus in the Sooners highest event tally of the night.
“Wow, that beam ending was something out of a movie,” said Kindler. “It was amazing. I was energized by it and I know the athletes were as well. They were a model of consistency all night, which they have been all season.”
OU pushed its season record to 22-0 with a final tally of 197.250 that included a sweep of all four team event titles. Hollie Vise (beam – 9.95) and Jackie Flanery (floor – 9.95) added more hardware with individual event crowns.
The Sooners and LSU (196.400) advance to the NCAA Championships out of the University Park region, while meet host Penn State placed third with a 196.050.

OU NAMED NO. 1 SEED AT UNIVERSITY PARK REGIONAL
The second-ranked OU women's gymnastics squad (17-0) has been assigned the No. 1 seed in the University Park Regional, announced by the NCAA selection committee on Monday. The Sooners will face No. 2 seed LSU and meet host Penn State (third seed) in the only 2010 regional featuring three squads that advanced to last year's NCAA Championships.
The regional meet will be held on April 10 at 5 p.m. (CT), at Rec Hall on the Penn State campus.
All three of the aforementioned squads competed in the first session of the 2009 NCAA Championships, where LSU advanced to the Super Six team final with its third-place finish in the qualifying session. Penn State placed fifth, while the Sooners were sixth.
OU is aiming for its third regional title in program history and the first since the 2006 season. The Sooners also claimed a regional crown in 2004.

MORE CONFERENCE ACCOLADES FOR THE SOONERS
Following the Big 12 Championship, Kindler was announced Big 12 Coach of the Year and was joined on the awards stand by Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Natasha Kelley. Kelley entered the meet with the highest RQS average of all conference newcomers on vault, bars and beam, despite competing on a 100% torn ACL suffered last November. Kelley was the first Oklahoma gymnast to garner the award in program history, while Kindler won her fifth Big 12 Coach of the Year award (second at Oklahoma).

OU NOTCHES BIG 12 THREE-PEAT
The second-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics squad stands atop the Big 12 podium once again, as the Sooners clinched their third straight Big 12 title with a team score of 197.175 on Saturday at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.
OU swept all four team event titles en route to the highest score by a Big 12 Champion since 2001.
"I think balance beam was the most important rotation for us to get started like that, but we brought our very best on floor and vault today," said fourth-year head coach K.J. Kindler. "It was thrilling to see their enthusiasm on those two events. Just to see their emotion and expression during the meet was awesome. It was fun to watch.
"It was definitely a goal of ours to three-peat, and I can tell you that we are very excited tonight."
It was a two-horse race from the start as the Sooners had to overtake a stingy Nebraska squad (196.625) in the last two rotations to clinch OU's ninth overall conference title (2010,'09,'08,'04, '93,'91,'86, '85, '84).
Missouri placed third with a team score of 195.900, while Iowa State finished last with a 194.850.
Oklahoma gymnasts won a share of every individual event title as well, capped off by multiple conference titles from Hollie Vise (bars - 9.9, beam - 9.925 and floor - 9.9) and Jackie Flanery (vault - 9.9 and floor - 9.9). Flanery was joined atop the vault podium by teammates Brie Olson and Natalie Ratcliff as the OU trio all captured the first Big 12 event title of their careers.
The Sooners captured 12 of the 23 spots on the All-Big 12 Championship squad, which is given to the top four places and ties on each apparatus at the conference championship. In addition to OU's Big 12 event champions, Kristin Smith earned the distinction on beam and floor, while Kayla Nowak (floor), Megan Ferguson (bars), Vise (floor) and Flanery (bars) rounded out the accolades.

SOONERS WELL REPRESENTED ON ALL-BIG 12 SQUAD
The second-ranked OU women's gymnastics squad claimed a conference-leading 10 spots on the 2010 All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. It marked the third straight year the Sooners have led all Big 12 foes on the regular season selection, which began in 2008.
The conference awarded the top four Big 12 gymnasts with the highest regional qualifying score (RQS) in each event and the top two in the all-around standings.
Oklahoma had six different gymnasts collect the 10 total honors. No other conference opponent had more than two gymnasts named to the All-Big 12 team or more than six total accolades. Meanwhile, the Sooners have had at least five selections every year under head coach K.J. Kindler.
The Sooners were the only conference squad to notch multiple honorees on an event. OU did so on each apparatus.
Headlining the 2010 award winners were OU's Hollie Vise and Megan Ferguson, who both earned multiple selections for the second consecutive season with honors on bars and beam. Kristin Smith was a two-time honoree in 2010 on beam and floor, after being named All-Big 12 on floor a year ago.

EIGHT SOONERS EARN ACADEMIC ALL-BIG 12 HONORS
Eight University of Oklahoma women's gymnasts have been named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team, including six first-team members, the conference announced Tuesday.
It's the second consecutive season the Sooners have had eight gymnasts qualify for the accolade. OU's eight honorees were second only to Iowa State's Big 12-leading 11 selections.
Garnering first-team accolades in 2009-10 were Megan Ferguson (journalism – broadcast and electronic media), Jackie Flanery (human relations), Mary Mantle (human relations), Natalie Ratcliff (early childhood education), Sara Stone (undecided) and Hollie Vise (human relations). Vise and Ratcliff are repeat recipients of the first-team honor after both garnered the accolade last season, while Flanery and Mantle earned second-team distinction in 2008.
Representing Oklahoma on the second team were Natasha Kelley (sociology) and Kristin Smith (human relations).
