SOONERS THREATEN RECORD BOOK

RB DeMarco Murray and WR Ryan Broyles, already record holders at Oklahoma, are threatening two more prestigious marks ...
Murray has 5,849 career all purpose yards, which is just 32 shy of Joe Washington's school record of 5,881. Washington's mark has been in place since 1975.
Earlier this season, against Iowa State, Murray broke Steve Owens' 41-year-old school record for career touchdowns. He now has 60 to Owens' 57.
Broyles is within striking distance of Mark Clayton's career record for receptions. Clayton, who played from 2001-04, and has had a lengthy NFL career with Baltimore and St. Louis, finished with 221. Broyles currently has 213.
Broyles set single game Oklahoma receiving records in each of the last two home games. He had 15 receptions (broke his own record of 13 against Stanford in the '09 Sun Bowl) against Iowa State and 208 receiving yards against Colorado (eclipsed Manuel Johnson's mark of 206 against TCU in '08).
In 2009, he set the school record for most receptions in one season with 89, but that mark may be in jeopardy this season as he's already at 78, the No. 3 figure in OU history.

HOME WINNING STREAK AT 34
Oklahoma has won its last 35 home games, a school record. The streak, the longest current string of home field success in the nation, began on Sept. 1, 2005 with a 31-15 victory over Tulsa. Here is a look at some of the accomplishments that occurred during that time ...
The Sooners have outscored their opponents by 1,047 points -- 1,562 to 515, an average score of 44.6 to 14.7.
Oklahoma scored 50+ points, 12 times, 60+ five and a high of 79 vs. North Texas in 2007 opener, Sam Bradford's first game.
The low Oklahoma scoring total was 24 points twice.
Oklahoma's defense has posted five shutouts and held the foe to single digits eight times.
Eighteen Sooners who played during the streak were taken in the NFL Draft.

TRENDS IN 2010
OU had at least a 15-point lead in seven of eight games.
OU has led in time of possession in six of eight games.
OU has more sacks than its foe in five of eight games.
OU won the turnover battle in five of eight games.
OU has more first downs in seven of eight games.
OU has made 28 PATs in a row.
OU has thrown for 300+ yards in four straight games.
OU had 600 total yards in each of its last two home tilts.

RARE TWO-POINTER NOT SO RARE
When Oklahoma's Javon Harris blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety last week against Colorado, it marked the 14th safety scored by the Sooners in Bob Stoops' 12 seasons as head coach. Eight of those were logged by the defense, six by special teams. The one-season high came in 2002 when OU scored three including two against Texas Tech. Only in 2001 and 2003 has Oklahoma failed to score a safety under its current coach, whose first season was 1999.

WHO NEEDS A REDSHIRT?

Thirteen true frosh have played for OU this season with five, CB Aaron Colvin, RB Roy Finch, S Tony Jefferson, FB Trey Millard and WR Kenny Stills, drawing starts.
Six redshirt freshmen also have played bringing the total number of frosh who have been on the field to 19.

  OFFENSE NOTES

Under Stoops, OU produced career leaders in passing and receiving, its No. 3 & No. 5 career rushers and season record holders in rushing, passing and receiving yards.
Some 61 offensive records have been set in Stoops' tenure at Oklahoma.
OU has scored in every game since Nov. 7, 1998.
OU has rushed for 200 yards 45 times under Stoops, 39 in the last six years.
Also under Stoops, OU has 153 touchdowns of 25+ yards and 311 scoring drives of 2:00 or less.
OU is the highest scoring program in college football history. In 1,162 games, the Sooners have scored 31,155 points. Michigan has 30,195 points in 1,220 games and Nebraska 30,163 in 1,226.

DEMARC-ABLE
DeMarco Murray became is only the second player in Oklahoma history to surpass 1,000 yards in three categories: He has 3,223 rushing yards, 126 receptions for 1,268 receiving yards and 1,358 return yards. His all-purpose total is 5,849. George “Buster” Rhymes (1980-84) is the only other Sooner to accomplish the feat with 1,158 rushing yards, 1,118 receiving yards and 1,237 kick return yards. Rhymes finished with 3,800 all-purpose yards.
For his career, Murray has 126 receptions for 1,268 yards. That yardage figure is No. 2 for an OU back behind 1,337 by Quentin Griffin (1999-02). Griffin also has the receptions mark for backs at 169 with Murray second.
Murray leads all OU backs in career TD catches with 11.
Murray's has cracked OU's prestigious top-10 list for career rushing. Despite a pair of Heisman-winning QBs during the same era, three of the backs currently on that list played under Bob Stoops -- Adrian Peterson, Quentin Griffin and Chris Brown.

RYAN'S HOPE
Ryan Broyles is re-working the OU record book ...
He caught nine passes for a school record 208 yards against Colorado. He had touchdown grabs of 16, 81 and 64 yards in that game. The 81-yarder was the longest pass play of the Bob Stoops era, the eighth-longest in school history.
The junior has 100 or more yards receiving in 10 of the last 11 games. He has a touchdown grab in nine of the last 12.
He ranks No. 1 in the nation in receptions per game at 9.75 and No. 3 in receiving yards per game at 127.3.
Against Iowa State, he broke his own school record for receptions in a game with 15. He tied the mark in the first half of that game with 13.
Broyles' 29 career TD receptions is No. 2 all-time at Oklahoma.

KEEPING UP WITH JONES
QB Landry Jones has eight 300-yard passing games in 18 starts. He had a season-high 452 passing yards against Colorado. He is now No. 3 in 300-yard games at OU. Sam Bradford and Josh Heupel, Jones' position coach, hold the record jointly at 14.
Against Iowa State, he fell one completion shy of tying the NCAA record for completion percentage in a game (min. 30 att.). He was 30-of-34 for 88.2%. The record was set by BYU's Steve Sarkesian, who was 31-of-34 against Fresno State in 1995.
The sophomore had career-best consecutive completion streaks of 13 against both Cincinnati and Iowa State.
Since opening the season against Utah State by going 17-of-36 (.472) for 217 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, he has completed 210-of-302 (.695) for 2,330 yards with 19 touchdowns and three INTs.
The soph threw for 321 yards in the first half of the Florida State game (380 total against the Seminoles), the second-best one-half total in school history.
Jones set a personal best with 36 completions (out of 51 attempts) against Cincinnati.
Jones completed at least 50% in 19 of 20 career games.

TAPPING IN TO THE TIGHT ENDS
OU's tight ends have been active in recent games ...
James Hanna now has a touchdown reception in four consecutive games.
Trent Ratterree caught three passes for a career-high 89 yards in the most recent game against Colorado.

THE LINE ON THE LINE
After finishing 2009 with only eight healthy scholarship linemen, there are 16 on this roster.
The current depth chart features just two seniors in tackle Eric Mensik and guard Brian Lepak. Despite the relative youth of the line, the current two-deep includes players who have combined to play in 149 games.
Two of Oklahoma's offensive linemen are converted tight ends -- T Eric Mensik and G Gabe Ikard.

  DEFENSE NOTES

OU has forced at least one turnover in 135 of Stoops' 153 games and has at least one interception in 98 of the last 133 with multiple picks in 48 of the last 104 outings.
Oklahoma has 13 shutouts under its current head coach. Opponents failed to score more than seven points 33 times and scored less than 14 in 61 games.

LEWIS IS LEADING TACKLER
Weakside linebacker Travis Lewis has led Oklahoma in tackles in each of his first two seasons. His 109 last season were 21 more than any other player on the team. He leads the 2010 with 74 and had a season-high 14 vs. Iowa State.
Lewis, with 327 tackles, is making a run at the prestigious career top-10 tackle list at OU. The record is held by the late Daryl Hunt at 530. The No. 10 spot belongs to Lee Roy Selmon at 335, eight ahead of Lewis.
Tracking down big names is nothing new for Lewis. As a freshman in 2007, he racked up 144 tackles to break Brian Bosworth's Oklahoma freshman record of 133.
In 31 career games, Lewis has registered double-digit tackles 14 times.
Lewis is trying to become only the sixth player in school history (tackles tracked since 1970) to lead Oklahoma in tackles for three straight seasons. The last to do it was Butkus Award winner Rocky Calmus from 1999-01.

THE REAL DEAL
Defensive end Jeremy Beal looks like a candidate to become Oklahoma's first Ted Hendricks Award winner. He has 13.5 tackles for loss (No. 8 nationally) and 6.0 sacks.
His 11 sacks last season rank No. 4 for a season at OU.
Beal is the only player in school history to notch two, three-sack games in the same year. He had three each against Tulsa and Miami last season.
The senior ranks No. 2 at Oklahoma for sacks in a career with 26.5. He is moving up the top-10 list for tackles for loss. He has 52.5, which ranks No. 3. Kelly Gregg is No. 2 at 53 with Rocky Calmus No. 1 at 59.
Nearly one-third of his career tackles have taken place behind the line of scrimmage. Beal has at least one tackle for loss in seven of eight games this season.
Beal had four tackles for loss at Missouri, a career-high, and just two shy of Cedric Jones' school record.
He leads this team in fumbles forced with three.

Q TIPS
Quinton Carter has emerged as one of the top defensive backs in the nation. The safety has 47 tackles, two interceptions (34 yards), four deflections and a fumble recovery.
In 2009, he had 88 tackles, which ranked No. 2 on the team, to go with four interceptions (tied for the Oklahoma lead).

NELSON EQUALS TACKLE TOTAL
With 62 tackles on the season, a total that ranks No. 2 on the team, safety Jonathan Nelson has eclipsed his total over the first three years of his career (53). He equaled his career-high for a single game with 11 at Missouri. Nelson also has one interception, four break-ups and two fumbles forced this season.

PASSES BROKEN UP BY...
...Almost everyone this season. With 40 break-ups, the Sooners are positioned to have one of their best seasons in that category. Over the previous seven seasons, the best total at Oklahoma was 61 (twice). With an average of five per game, this Sooner team will threaten that mark. The school record was set in 2000 with an incredible 110. Last year's team had 45.
The Sooners had a season-high 11 deflections against Colorado.
The team leader in pass break-ups is CB Jamell Fleming, who is in his first year as a starter and has missed one game due to injury, with nine. He ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 in that statistic.

COMPLETION PERCENTAGE DOWN
Despite the pass-happy nature of college football, only once under Bob Stoops has a Sooner team finished the team allowing a 60% completion rate. This team is excelling in that area at just 54.3%. Three Sooner opponents fell under the 50% mark.

TAKEAWAY TRADEOFF
Oklahoma has 16 takeaways this season ... by 11 different players. The nine fumble recoveries are by seven different players while the seven interceptions are by five different Sooners.

  SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

Oklahoma's special teams under Bob Stoops ...
There have been 27 special teams touchdowns, including 21 in the last 80 regular season games. Those 21 came via five different kinds of plays -- 12 punt returns, two faked field goals, two blocked punts, four kickoff returns and a faked punt. Special teams also own one safety in that span.
Oklahoma has returned eight kickoffs and 16 punts for touchdowns.
The Sooners have blocked 25 kicks.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS

Interception Returns -- 84 returns of 10 or more yards with 21 touchdowns.
Fumble Returns -- six returns of 15 or more yards with eight touchdowns.

OU PUNT RETURNS SUCCESSFUL
Oklahoma ranked No. 3 nationally last season in punt returns (16.26), a figure that also coincided with Ryan Broyles' individual ranking (15.87).
The team average was the best at Oklahoma since 1974 when the average return went for 16.4 yards. What makes the average even more impressive is the fact that OU ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 last season in punt return attempts at 43, just one behind Nebraska's 44.
For the second straight year, Broyles returned a punt for a TD, this time an 87-yarder against Oklahoma State.
When Broyles was shelved by an injury, Dominique Franks returned 11 punts for an average of 17.0.
This year, the Sooners are at 8.2 per punt return.

COVER TEAM A STONE WALL
Last season, Sooner foes ran back 17 punts for a paltry 30 yards. That 1.76-yard average ranked No. 2 nationally.
OU was No. 5 in net punting at 40.3 yards.
The longest punt return OU surrendered last season was 19 yards. No other punt return exceeded six yards.
The 2010 team is performing in similar fashion in 2010. Oklahoma opponents have returned 16 punts for 43 yards. That 2.69 average ranks No. 6 in the nation. The Sooners rank No. 7 nationally in net punting at 40.36 yards.

WAY GOOD AT PUNTER
P Tress Way had arguably the best season ever for an OU punter in 2009, and was just a redshirt freshman. He punted 61 times for an average of 45.7 yards with 22 of 50+ yards and 17 inside the 20.
Way's '09 average ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 3 nationally. It also was the second-best average in OU history, the best by a punter with at least 35 attempts.
He averaged a school-record 58.8 yards on six punts vs. Oklahoma St., including a 74-yarder.
Way, a soph, has 30 kicks of 50+ yards in his career. Jeff Ferguson (1998-01) set that OU record with 52.
In 2010, Way has 10 of 50 or more yards and with 10 inside the 20 and an average of 44.3 yards on 43 kicks.

KICKING DUTIES BACK TO O'HARA
Patrick O'Hara, who made 3-4 field goals and 9-10 PATs as the placekicker before Jimmy Stevens took over the role, is back to handling kickoffs for the Sooners. He has 15 this season with four touchbacks.

WINCHESTER RIFLES TO STARDOM
James Winchester, long-snapper for Oklahoma's punts, Now has three fumble recoveries on punt coverage this season. Those three recoveries lead all Big 12 players.
He recovered the game-securing fumble late in the win over Texas.
He pounced on one at Cincinnati that set up the game-securing touchdown
He recovered a muffed punt at Missouri that the Sooner offense converted into a touchdown.
His dad, Mike, was OU's punter from 1984-85 and his sister, Carolyn, was on the Sooner women's basketball team from 2006-09.
