SCHEDULING ODDITY

Oklahoma is playing its final two regular season games of the season on the road. That hasn't happened since 2006 when the Sooners played Baylor and Oklahoma State, the same two opponents they're playing this year, away from Norman. Prior to that, the scheduling oddity had not occurred since 1986 when Barry Switzer's team wrapped up at Colorado and Nebraska. In both '06 and '86, Oklahoma won both end-of-season road games.
If OU makes the Big 12 title game, and including its bowl, the team will play its final four games of the season away from Norman. That also happened in 2006.
Due to the change in the Big 12 scheduling rotation, OU and OSU will play in Stillwater next season too.

FAMILIAR TITLE TERRITORY
For the ninth time in the last 11 seasons, Oklahoma enters the final game of the regular season with a shot at the Big 12 South Division title. The Sooners have won the division crown seven times during that time and then went on to win six Big 12 Championships.

1. The records of the three teams will be compared against each other
2. The records of the three teams will be compared within their division
3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5 and 6)
4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.

6. The team with the best overall winning percentage (excluding exempted games) shall be the representative.
7. The representative will be chosen by draw.

CORNUCOPIA OF NOTES
ESPN's GameDay: The Saturday morning telecast will be on hand for this game marking the 25th time the show has visited an Oklahoma game. That total ranks No. 3 nationally behind Florida (32) and Ohio State (28).
Big Play Barrage: Including special teams and defensive returns, Oklahoma has 76 plays of 20 yards or longer this season. Interestingly, 45 of those (59%) have come over the last five weeks. Of the 55 offensive plays from scrimmage that covered 20 yards or more this season, 34 (62%)came during that same period.
Safety Glance: Oklahoma has scored three safeties this season, all on special teams. That total equals the 2002 campaign for the most safeties in one season under Bob Stoops. OU has a whopping 16 safeties under its current coach, eight on defense and eight on special teams. Only in 2001 and 2003 has Oklahoma failed to score a safety under Stoops.
Penalties Plummet: Over its first four games, Oklahoma averaged 8.0 penalties for 64.3 yards per game including 13 for 113 yards at Cincinnati. In the seven games since then, the Sooners have averaged just 4.1 penalties for only 36.0 yards per game. Over the last four games, those figures have dropped to 3.5 for 35.5, respectively.
Freshmen on the Field: Thirteen true freshmen have played for OU this season with six -- CB Aaron Colvin, RB Roy Finch, WR Trey Franks, S Tony Jefferson, FB Trey Millard and WR Kenny Stills -- drawing starts. Six redshirt freshmen also have played bringing the total number of frosh who have been on the field to 19.

RARE TWO-POINTER NOT SO RARE
Oklahoma has blocked a punt out of the end zone for safety against Colorado and Texas A&M. The program now has 15 safeties in Bob Stoops' 12 seasons as head coach. Eight of those were by the defense, seven by special teams. The one-season high came in 2002 when OU scored three including two against Texas Tech. Only in 2001 and 2003 has Oklahoma failed to score a safety under its current coach, whose first season was 1999.

The Sooners just completed their 52nd unbeaten season at home, their fifth in a row.
It is the 13th-longest streak in NCAA history, but it should be noted that seven of the top 13 streaks ended before 1920. The OU streak ranks No. 6 since WWII and is the longest since Florida State's 37 in a row from 1992-2001. Miami holds the record at 58 from 1985-94.

The Sooners are 72-2 on Owen Field under Stoops and have won 36 straight, a school record and the nation's longest current streak.
The current string of sellouts is the longest in school history, bettering a string of 69 from 1971-84.
The average home attendance of 85,075 in 2008 was a school record. The top nine seasons for football attendance at Oklahoma came on Stoops' watch.
The largest home crowd in school history was 85,646, on hand for the 2008 OU-Texas Tech game.
Oklahoma has exceeded its listed seating capacity of 82,112 at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in 46 consecutive home games.
Oklahoma has played before sellout crowds in 127 of the 157 games (home, away, neutral) since Stoops became the head coach. During that time, a total of 10,682,406 (average of 68,040) have watched the Sooners.

Some 65 OU offensive marks have been set under Stoops.

DEMARC-ABLE
DeMarco Murray has broken Joe Washington's 35-year-old OU career mark for all purpose yards and Steve Owens' 41-year-old mark for career touchdowns.
He is No. 4 in Big 12 history in touchdowns scored with 64. That's five off Torean Henderson's record of 69.
Murray is only the second player in Oklahoma history to surpass 1,000 yards in three categories: He has 3,444 rushing yards, 144 receptions for 1,471 receiving yards and 1,462 return yards. His all-purpose total is 6,377. George “Buster” Rhymes (1980-84) is the only other Sooner to accomplish the feat with 1,158 rushing yards, 1,118 receiving yards and 1,237 kick return yards. Rhymes finished with 3,800 all-purpose yards.
His 6,377 career all purpose yards rank No. 17 in NCAA history, No. 2 in Big 12 history (Darren Sproles, 6,812).
Murray is No. 1 for receiving yards by an OU back with 1,471. He's No. 2 to Quentin Griffin in receptions by a back. Griffin had 169. Murray has 144. Murray leads all OU backs in career TD catches with 13.

HE BROYLES THE RECORD BOOK
Ryan Broyles has tied Mark Clayton's OU career record for receptions at 241. He also has set a season record with 106, 17 more than the school record he set last season.
His 3,116 career receiving yards rank No. 7 in Big 12 history, while his 241 receptions rank No. 6. His 33 touchdown receptions rank No. 4 in Big 12 history.
He caught nine passes for a school record 208 yards vs. Colorado. He had TD grabs of 16, 81 and 64 yards in that game. The 81-yarder was the longest pass play of the Bob Stoops era, the eighth-longest in school history.
He has 100 or more yards receiving in 11 of the last 13 games. He has a touchdown grab in 10 of the last 14.
He ranks No. 1 in the nation in receptions per game at 9.64 and No. 3 in receiving yards per game at 119.0.
Against Iowa State, he broke his own school record for receptions in a game with 15. He tied the mark in the first half of that game with 13.

KEEPING UP WITH JONES
QB Landry Jones has 10, 300-yard passing games in 21 starts. He had a season-high 452 passing yards against Colorado. He is No. 3 in 300-yard games at OU. Sam Bradford and Josh Heupel, Jones' position coach, hold the record jointly at 14.
Against Iowa State, he fell one completion shy of tying the NCAA record for completion percentage in a game (min. 30 att.). He was 30-of-34 for 88.2%. The record was set by BYU's Steve Sarkesian, who was 31-of-34 against Fresno State in 1995.
The sophomore had career-best consecutive completion streaks of 13 against both Cincinnati and Iowa State.
Since opening the season against Utah State by going 17-of-36 (.472) for 217 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, he has completed 294-of-429 (.685) for 2,937 yards with 25 touchdowns and four INTs.
The soph threw for 321 yards in the first half of the Florida State game (380 total against the Seminoles), the second-best one-half total in school history.
Jones set a personal best with 36 completions at Cincinnati and Texas A&M.
Jones completed at least 50% in 22 of 23 career games.
Now has 56 career touchdown passes against 21 INTs.

FRESHMEN CATCHING ON
For the first time in school history, three freshmen (all true) have caught touchdown passes -- Trey Franks, Trey Millard and Kenny Stills.
Kenny Stills is one of the most prolific freshman receivers in OU history. For all freshmen, including redshirts, he ranks No. 3 with 44 catches, two behind the record of 46 by Ryan Broyles and Mark Clayton. Stills is tops among true freshmen. With 590 yards, Stills ranks No. 2 among OU freshmen behind Broyles (687). He is No. 1 among true frosh.
In his first start, at Texas A&M, true freshman Trey Franks had eight receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown. Franks is No. 4 on the team with 25 receptions. They've gone for 237 yards.

RETURN OF THE FULLBACK
True freshman Trey Millard has 21 rushes for 61 yards and one TD, and 13 receptions for another 120 and one TD. That's more rushes and rushing yards than any OU fullback since Seth Littrell had 24 attempts for 78 yards in 2000. It's the most receptions and receiving yards since J.D. Runnells had 20 for 205 in 2005.

LINES ON THE LINE
After finishing 2009 with only eight healthy scholarship linemen, there are 16 on this roster.
The current depth chart features just two seniors in tackle Eric Mensik and guard Brian Lepak.
Two of Oklahoma's offensive linemen are converted tight ends -- T Eric Mensik and G Gabe Ikard.
Eight players have started in the line this season.

  DEFENSE NOTES

OU has forced at least one turnover in 138 of Stoops' 156 games and has at least one interception in 101 of the last 136 with multiple picks in 61 of the last 107 outings.
Oklahoma has 13 shutouts under its current head coach. Opponents failed to score more than seven points 34 times and scored less than 14 in 62 games.

LEWIS IS LEADING TACKLER
Weakside LB Travis Lewis has led Oklahoma in tackles in each of his first two seasons. His 109 last season were 21 more than any other player on the team. He leads the 2010 with 89 and had a season-high 14 vs. Iowa State.
Lewis, with 342 tackles (the second-highest total by a Bob Stoops player at OU), has cracked the career top 10 tackle list at OU. The record is held by the late Daryl Hunt at 530. Lewis passed Lee Roy Selmon for the No. 10 spot and now trails No. 9 Kevin Murphy by 11.
As a freshman in 2007, Lewis racked up 144 tackles to break Brian Bosworth's OU freshman record of 133.
Has double-digit tackles in 14 of 34 career games.
Lewis is trying to become only the sixth player in school history (tackles tracked since 1970) to lead Oklahoma in tackles for three straight seasons. The last to do it was Butkus Award winner Rocky Calmus from 1999-01.
Got seventh career interception against Texas Tech. He has 132 career return yards, an average of 18.6 per pick.

THE REAL DEAL
DE Jeremy Beal has 16.0 tackles for loss (No. 11 nationally) and 7.5 sacks.
Leads the Big 12 in sacks and tackles for loss.
His 11 sacks last season rank No. 4 for a season at OU.
Ranks No. 2 at OU for sacks in a career with 29.0. Cedric Jones has the record at 31.5. Beal is also No. 2 in tackles for loss with 56.5. Rocky Calmus had 59.
Beal had four tackles for loss at Missouri, a career-high, and just two shy of Cedric Jones' school record.
Had 1.5 sacks and 2.5 TFL in win over Texas Tech.
He leads this team in fumbles forced with three.
Beal is the only player in school history to notch two, three-sack games in the same year. He had three each against Tulsa and Miami last season.
Nearly one-third of his career tackles have taken place behind the line of scrimmage. Beal has at least one tackle for loss in eight of 10 games this season.
First player in school history to log 7.5 or more sacks in three different seasons.
Jeremy Beal's 2010 Video Series

FLEMING IMPRESSIVE
CB Jamell Fleming leads OU with four interceptions (No. 17 in the nation) and 11 break-ups (No. 1 in the nation), and leads the Big 12 with 15 passes defended. That's even more impressive considering he missed one game (Texas) due to injury. The junior from Arlington, Texas, is No. 4 on the team with 58 tackles.

NELSON SURPASSES TACKLE TOTAL
With 86 tackles this season, a total that ranks No. 2 on the team, S Jonathan Nelson has blown past the number he posted in his first three combined (53). He equaled his career-high for a game with 11 at Missouri and Texas A&M.
Jonathan Nelson's 2010 Video Series

Q TIPS
S Quinton Carter had 17 tackles against Texas Tech. That was the best total by an OU defensive back since Brandon Everage's 19 vs. Colorado in 2002. He's No. 3 on the team with 81 stops to go with two interceptions, five deflections and a fumble recovery. Including 10 tackles vs. Baylor, he has 27 over the last two games.

BREAKING UP NOT SO HARD
With 55 break-ups, the Sooners are positioned to have one of their best seasons in that category. Over the previous seven seasons, the best total at Oklahoma was 61 (twice). The school record was set in 2000 with an incredible 110. Last year's team had 45.
OU had a season-high 11 deflections against Colorado.

COMPLETION PERCENTAGE DOWN
Despite this pass-happy era of college football, only once under Bob Stoops has an OU team finished the year allowing a 60% completion rate. This team is at just 54.7%. Four Sooner foes this season fell under the 50%.

TAKEAWAY TRADE-OFF
Oklahoma has 23 takeaways this season ... by 14 different players. The 10 fumble recoveries are by seven different players while the 13 interceptions are by seven different Sooners.

  SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

Oklahoma's special teams under Bob Stoops ...
There have been 27 special teams touchdowns.
OU has returned eight kickoffs and 16 punts for TDs.
The Sooners have blocked 26 kicks.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS
Information on returns during the Stoops era ...
Kickoff Returns -- 101 returns of 25 or more yards, 8 TD.
Punt Returns -- 64 returns of 15 or more yards, 16 TD.
Interception Returns -- 85 returns of 10 or more yards with 21 touchdowns.
Fumble Returns -- six returns of 15 or more yards with eight touchdowns.

BIG RUN BACKS RECENTLY
Oklahoma had been uncharacteristically quiet in its return games until the last few weeks. It started with Mossis Madu's 77-yard kickoff return at Missouri. Then DeMarco Murray broke free on a 48-yard return at Texas A&M, while Ryan Broyles reeled off a 31-yard punt return against the Aggies before Brennan Clay's 36-yard kickoff return at Baylor.
The longest kickoff return (Madu, 77) and the longest punt return (Broyles, 31) of the season have come over the last six games, and both occurred on the road.

PUNT COVER TEAM A STONE WALL
Last season, Sooner foes ran back 17 punts for a paltry 30 yards. That 1.76-yard average ranked No. 2 nationally. The numbers are similar this season. The opponents have 20 returns for 43 yards, an average of 2.2 yards. That figure ranks No. 2 nationally.
OU was No. 7 in net punting at 40.3 yards last season, and is No. 4 this year at 40.9.
The longest punt return OU surrendered last season was 19 yards. No other punt return exceeded six yards. This year there was one return of 25 and another of 15, but otherwise none that exceeded six. Five opponents have finished the game with negative punt return yards against OU this season.
The bugaboo has been kickoff returns. The Sooners have surrendered two for touchdowns this season, seven over the last three campaigns combined.
The Sooners have two blocked punts this season for safeties -- vs. Colorado and Texas A&M.

WAY GOOD AT PUNTER
P Tress Way has 16 boots of 50 or more yards with 16 inside the 20 and an average of 44.1 yards on 57 kicks. If the season ended now, he'd have the No. 3 punting average in school history.
Last season was perhaps the best ever for an OU punter, and was just a redshirt freshman. He punted 61 times for 45.7 yards with 22 of 50+ yards and 17 inside the 20. His average ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 3 nationally. It also was the second-best average in OU history, the best by a punter with at least 35 attempts.
He averaged a school-record 58.8 yards on six punts vs. Oklahoma St., including a 74-yarder.
Way, a soph who also handles some kickoff duties, has 36 kicks of 50+ yards in his career. Jeff Ferguson (1998-01) set that OU record with 52.

KICKING DUTIES SPLIT
Jimmy Stevens is handling extra points and short-distance field goals, while Patrick O'Hara is getting the call on long-distance field goals. Stevens is 10-of-13 this season on field goals with a long of 42 at Cincinnati. O'Hara, who has shared kickoff duties with Tress Way, is 4-of-6 with a long of 45 at Texas A&M.

WINCHESTER RIFLES TO STARDOM
James Winchester, long-snapper for Oklahoma's punts, Now has three fumble recoveries on punt coverage this season. Those three recoveries lead all Big 12 players and, by average per game, ranks No. 8 nationally.
He recovered the game-securing fumble late vs. Texas.
He pounced on one at Cincinnati that set up the game-securing touchdown
He recovered a muffed punt at Missouri that the Sooner offense converted into a touchdown.
His dad, Mike, was OU's punter from 1984-85 and his sister, Carolyn, was on the Sooner women's basketball team from 2006-09. A younger sister, Rebecca, is a sophomore on OU's Rowing team.
