Volleyball Celebrates 2009 Season

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team celebrated the 2009 team Saturday evening during a banquet at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Team members were joined by the coaching staff, support staff, parents and fans to reflect on the squad's NCAA Tournament season. Oklahoma made its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last four seasons. The Sooners finished with an overall record of 18-12 and 11-9 in conference play to finish fourth in the Big 12 standings.

Sophomore Suzy Boulavsky was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Boulavsky was named American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Central Region honorable mention. She led Oklahoma offensively with 3.08 kills per set. She tallied 320 on the season, hitting .225. Boulavsky also recorded 157 digs to average 1.51 per set. In the front row, she tallied 72 total blocks, including three block solos. She was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 19 and a CVU.com Top Performer on Oct. 20. Academically, Boulavsky was named to the first team Academic All-Big 12 team and first team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Sophomore setter Brianne Barker earned the team's Most Improved Player award. Barker was an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection. She commanded the Oklahoma offense to a .208 hitting percentage. She averaged 9.91 assists per set with 1,031 on the year. She also averaged 3.38 digs per set, a league best among setters. Senior Jackie Fotu earned the Sooner Award for her all-around contributions to the team, and senior Bridget Laplante was named the recipient of the Trish Lundeen Endowment Scholarship.
