Palmer Collects Multiple Honors

NORMAN, Okla. -- For the second time this season, junior forward Whitney Palmer was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. Palmer shared the honor with Missouri's Bree Thornton while Colorado's Kara Linder (defensive) and Quinn Krier (newcomer) were also recognized by the league office on Tuesday.

Palmer, who ranks in a tie for third place nationally with 10 goals, was also honored by Soccer America and CollegeSoccer360.com on their respective teams of the week.

A native of Plano, Texas, Palmer helped OU make history on Sunday, Sept. 27 vs. then-No. 13 Texas A&M and recorded her second multi-goal game of the season. The performance gave OU its first program victory over the Aggies and her two goals also snapped an 11-game skid for the Sooners against ranked teams.

The Sooners' star forward began the weekend with her eighth goal of the season in the 2-1 loss to Texas. In two games over the weekend, Palmer netted three goals as seven of her nine shots were on goal.

The three goals over the weekend gives Palmer 10 on the season, a mark that ranks second in the Big 12 this year and is the second most in a single season by a Sooner. The junior also moved into third place all-time at OU with 24 career goals scored. In addition, Palmer's 22 points this season ranks second in the Big 12.

The Big 12 honor is the third of Palmer's career and second this season after she was awarded following her hat trick vs. Tulsa on Aug. 30. Last week, OU goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire was named the conference's defensive player of the week.
