ARLINGTON,Texas – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team needed just the minimum three sets to defeat Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday at the UT-Arlington Invitational. The Sooners (6-2) took a commanding lead to defeat the Trojans (5-3) in a 3-0 blanking [25-16, 25-13, 26-24].
Arlington native Francie Ekwerekwu paced OU offensively with 11 kills. The junior also contributed defensively with five total blocks, including one block solo. Sophomore Suzy Boulavsky finished the match with nine kills and led the Sooners with a .562 hitting percentage.
Senior Bridget Laplante and junior Sarah Freudenrich each added eight kills. Laplante totaled 11 digs, while Freudenrich continued her stellar defensive play with six total blocks, including one block solo.
Sophomores Brianne Barker and Kylie Cowan split time at setter, each recording double-digit assists. Barker had 26 while Cowan added 15. Freshman Maria Fernanda once again led the Sooners with 13 digs.
Sophomore Caitlin Higgins also added seven kills for OU, who hit .250 as a team for this first time this season. Oklahoma out-blocked the Trojans, 11-5 and held UALR to a .070 clip.
Oklahoma returns to action later tonight, taking on host UT-Arlington at 7 p.m. CT.
