NORMAN, Okla. -- The Sooner soccer team started three freshmen over the opening weekend and saw three record points and another post two shutouts in goal as OU went 2-0 over the weekend.
The heralded 2009 recruiting class has displayed its skills early in the season and have shown that the Sooners not only have a bright future, but have a deep and talented squad this season.
Freshmen Kelsey Devonshire (GK), Dria Hampton (MF) and Olivia Staff (D) started each of the two contests over the weekend and played a majority of the minutes.
Hampton recorded two assists over the weekend, including one on the team's first goal scored in 2009, while Devonshire posted back-to-back shutouts with a combined three saves.
Freshman forward Jessican Johnson scored the most athletic goal of the opening weekend as her diving header gave OU a 3-0 lead on Friday night over Missouri State. In addition, Brianna Turang (D/MF) and Leslie Shurtleff (D/MF) also saw time over the weekend.
