IRVING, Texas -- OU junior forward Whitney Palmer was named to the All-Big 12 soccer preseason team on Wednesday as voted on by the conference's coaches.

Palmer has led the Sooners in scoring in each of the last two seasons and enters 2009 with 14 career goals.  The total is the second most by an OU player after two seasons and ranks sixth all-time.

Palmer is the first Sooner since Logan Womack (2002) to be named to the preseason team and the third in the program's 13 year history (Christen Secrest - 2000).  She led OU with eight goals in 2008, third most by a Sooner in a single season, and was named to the All-Big 12 second team.

The eight goals ranked ninth in the Big 12 Conference in 2008 and Palmer became just the second player in school history to lead a team outright in goals scored in back-to-back seasons (Jonette Coquatt in 1998-99).

As a true freshman, the Plano, Texas, native was named to the All-Big 12 Newcomer team with six goals scored.

Palmer and the Sooners will host Arkansas in the lone preseason game on the 2009 slate on Friday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at the OU Soccer Complex.  The regular season opener will also be played in Norman and is scheduled for the Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. against Missouri State.
