Quarterback Sam Bradford won All-America honors from the Associated Press, CBSsports.com, ESPN.com. Rivals.com and The Sporting News. He also captured the Heisman Memorial Trophy, the Davey O'Brien Award, the Sammy Baugh Trophy, the Chic Harley Award and national player of the year honors from The Sporting News and CBSSports.com (offense). He was Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches.

The sophomore from Oklahoma City was the triggerman on arguably the most prolific offense in the modern era of college football. The 2008 Sooners, who effectively implemented a no-huddle scheme, became the first team in that span to score 60 or more points in five consecutive games and the first to score more than 700 (716) for a season. It also became the first squad to produce a 4,000-yard passer and two 1,000-yard rushers.

Bradford led the nation with 50 touchdown passes and a pass efficiency rating of 180.4. For the season, he completed 328-of-483 passes for 4,720 yards and just eight interceptions. During the season, he set OU season records for touchdown passes, completion percentage in a season (.679), passing efficiency and total offense (4,747). He established career career marks for touchdown passes (86) and total offense (7.895) in just his second season of competition.

With Bradford calling signals, Oklahoma (12-2, 7-1) won its third consecutive Big 12 Conference championship, while also gaining a berth in the BCS National Championship Game.

In addition to his competitive prowess, Bradford earned second-team Academic All-America honors.
