NORMAN — Oklahoma running back Tory Blaylock was named SEC Freshman of the Week after rushing for 101 yards and a touchdown in OU's 26-7 road win over South Carolina on Saturday in Columbia, S.C., the conference office announced Monday.
Blaylock established a career high in rushing yards and averaged 5.3 yards on his 19 carries. His 101 yards were the most by an SEC freshman running back on the week. He scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the season on an 18-yard play on the opening drive of the game, his second 18-yard carry on that possession.
The Humble, Texas, product led a Sooners rushing attack that totaled 171 rushing yards, OU's most against a Power Four opponent this season. Oklahoma's 171 rushing yards were the second most allowed this season by a South Carolina defensive unit that entered the contest allowing 147.0 rushing yards per game. Blaylock leads the Sooners with 391 rushing yards and 4.5 yards per carry on the year.
This is Blaylock's second SEC Freshman of the Week honor. He also earned the award on Sept. 15 after rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-3 win at Temple.
This is OU's sixth SEC weekly award of the season. Redshirt junior kicker Tate Sandell was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 6 (vs. Kent State), senior defensive lineman R Mason Thomas was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week and punter Grayson Miller was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 22 (vs. Auburn) and redshirt junior quarterback John Mateer was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8 (vs. Michigan).
No. 13/11 Oklahoma (6-1, 2-1 SEC) plays host to No. 8/8 Ole Miss (6-1, 3-1 SEC) on Saturday at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ABC.
