NORMAN, Okla. -- The 38th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's tennis team (12-8, 1-4 Big 12) will close out its regular season at No. 34 Texas Tech, Sunday, April 19.

“They are awfully good and have four senior starters in their lineup,” OU head coach Paul Lockwood said. “They have real good quality at the top and solidness throughout their lineup.”

The Red Raiders are led by Raony Carvalho, No. 41 nationally, and Sinisa Markovic, No. 109. Carvalho and Christian Rojmar, combine to compose the 12th-ranked doubles team in the country.

The Sooners go into this weekend's match after defeating Wichita State, 6-1, on Wednesday.

OU is led by junior Andrei Daescu, ranked No. 66 nationally. Daescu and sophomore David Pultr combine forces in doubles action to comprise the 65th-ranked doubles team in the country. The OU duo is 13-1 on the spring season and 5-0 in Big 12 action.

The Sooners also boast the No. 42 doubles team in the nation in senior Sergey Avdeyev and sophomore Ionut Beleleu. The duo entered the rankings after upsetting OSU's 17th-ranked No. 1 doubles pairing of Nathan Byrnes and Oleksandr Nedovyesov, 8-7 (6).

Avdeyev was honored Monday as the Big 12 Player of the Week after he defeated Oklahoma State's Nathan Byrnes at No. 2 singles, rallying from a 6-7 first-set deficit to win his next two sets, 6-1, 6-4.

“We are coming into Lubbock off a win and we'll be ready,” Lockwood said.

The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Following action against the Red Raiders, OU will begin preparation for the Big 12 Championships, which will be held in Norman, April 24-26.
