TAMPA, Fla. -- Casey Johnson delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded to give No. 15 Oklahoma a 5-4 win over Bethune Cookman during the first game of the USF Bulls Baseball Classic on Friday.

The Sooners entered the bottom half of the 10th down 4-3 and Johnson's single through the left side of the infield was the Sooners' lone hit in the frame.  The Bulls' bullpen walked three batters before allowing pinch runner Elliott Blair to score on a wild pitch.  The next batter, Jamie Johnson (2-for-3, HR, RBI), was hit by a pitch to reload the bases before Casey Johnson provided the heroics.

“It was a well played, hard-fought game and neither team deserved to lose today,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway, who is 14-1-1 in extra innings at the Sooners' helm.  “Ultimately, we made the plays in the end that made the difference.”

Oklahoma has now won 10 straight games and improved to 16-3 after the extra-inning victory.  The loss dropped Bethune Cookman to 8-7 overall.

Starting pitchers Andrew Doyle and Hiram Burgos pitched back and forth in a duel on Friday afternoon.  Doyle did not register a decision and struck out seven batters across 6 2/3  innings.  Doyle allowed three runs on 10 hits and a walk before giving way to Chase Anderson in the seventh.

Burgos lasted eight innings but also did not factor into the decision despite giving up three runs on five hits and a walk.  Burgos was efficient and struck out 10 Sooners.

Oklahoma fell behind early as the Wildcats tacked on a run off three hits in the top of the fourth, but Jamie Johnson brought OU back in the bottom half of the frame with his sixth homer of the season.  The solo shot led things off for OU in the frame.

The Sooners took a 3-1 lead on Bryant Hernandez's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Matt Harughty led off the frame with a single to left-center field and after Jamie Johnson drew a walk, Casey Johnson advanced the runners both into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.

In the top of the seventh, Bethune Cookman evened things up with a pair of runs off Doyle before Chase Anderson came in to record the final out of the inning.

A play at the plate kept the game tied momentarily at three in the top of the 10th inning.  With one out and a runner on first base, Alejandro Jimenez drove an offering from Tyson Seng off the wall in right center field for a double and the relay from Matt Harughty was on target to nail the potential go-ahead run.  Chris Brown tried to score from first but made the second out of the inning at the plate and was ejected after the play after running into OU catcher J.T. Wise.

Unfortunately for the Sooners, the next batter connected for an infield single to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead.  Despite giving up the go-ahead run, Tyson Seng improved to 3-0 after closing out the final inning of work for the Sooners.

Justin Dahl (0-1) took the loss for Bethune Cookman after giving up the final two runs on three walks and a hit batter.

The Sooners continue play in the USF Bulls Baseball Classic against host South Florida at 6 p.m. CST on Saturday.  The game will be broadcast live on KOKC 1520 AM in Oklahoma City.
