NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma sophomore Suzy Boulavsky was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region team on Wednesday afternoon. Boulavsky earned honorable mention honors and becomes just the fifth Sooner to be named to the team under head coach Santiago Restrepo.
"It's a very well-deserved honor for Suzy," said Restrepo. "This young lady worked extremely hard this past season, and we hope she continues to strive to be the best."
Boulavsky led Oklahoma offensively with 3.08 kills per set. She tallied 320 on the season, hitting .225. She also recorded 157 digs to average 1.51 per set. In the front row, she tallied 72 total blocks, including three block solos. Boulavsky carried OU to an 18-12 overall mark and a sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
She was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 19 and a CVU.com Top Performer on Oct. 20. Academically, Boulavsky was named to the first team Academic All-Big 12 team and first team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
"It's great to be recognized by the AVCA," Boulavsky said. "It's nice to be noticed after you've worked really hard to get to where you are. I'm really honored to represent the University of Oklahoma."
Eliane Santos and Joanna Schmitt earned first team accolades in 2006, while Rachel Jackson (2006) and Sarah Weiland (2007) were honorable mention selections in their respective seasons. Prior to Restrepo's arrival, Patrice Arrington earned first team honors in 1995 and 1997.
