NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team placed two players on the All-Big 12 honorable mention team and one on the all-freshman team. Sophomore Brianne Barker and junior Francie Ekwerekwu were named to the honorable mention all-Big 12 team, while María Fernanda was named to the all-freshman team.
“Francie, Brianne and María have been instrumental to the success of our team this season,” said Oklahoma head coach Santiago Restrepo. “They are very deserving and we're excited for the future of our team.”
Barker commanded the Oklahoma offense to a .208 hitting percentage during the regular season. She averaged 9.90 assists per set with 1,000 on the year. She also averaged 3.44 digs per set, a league best among setters. Ekwerekwu was second on the team with 2.66 kills per set, hitting .284 at middle blocker. Ekwerekwu dropped 93 total blocks this season, including 14 block solos to average 0.93 blocks per set.
Fernanda was fifth in the league in digs per set with 4.42 per set. She also averaged 1.02 assists per set and recorded four kills on the year.
The Sooners open NCAA Tournament play Friday evening at Southern California. First serve between OU and the Women of Troy is set for 9 p.m. CT at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
