NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men's basketball team hit 13-of-23 3-point attempts and preseason All-American Willie Warren scored a game-high 23 points as the Sooners posted a 93-53 victory over British Columbia in exhibition action Tuesday night at Lloyd Noble Center.

In its first contest without last year's consensus National Player of the Year Blake Griffin, it was Warren and his fellow OU underclassmen that filled the void. The group accounted for 72 of the Sooners' 93 points (77 percent), including 87 percent of the first-half scoring output. Freshman Steven Pledger netted 14 points (4-of-6 from 3-point range) while McDonald's High School All-Americans Tommy Mason-Griffin (also 4-for-6 from 3-point range) and Tiny Gallon added 12 and 10, respectively.

"We still have a lot of work to do," said fourth-year head coach Jeff Capel. "I thought in the second half we did a better job of valuing the ball. Our freshmen were very good, especially offensively. They have to get better on the defensive end, but that is to be expected."

Warren added five assists against no turnovers, two rebounds and a pair of steals to his 9-of-18 (.500) shooting night.

"I thought he (Warren) did a very good job of finding guys, as evidenced by his five assists and no turnovers," said Capel. "With our ability to play him and Tommy together, he is going to get the chance to not only score but dish to some good shooters. When our guys are rebounding, we can be a dangerous team with our ability to get out in transition and allow our shooters to spot up."

OU hit nine of its last 13 3-point attempts, including three by Pledger. "The thing he (Pledger) does well is stretch the floor," said Capel.

"The guys on the bench are standing as soon as he releases it and are surprised when he misses. He really opens the floor for Tommy and Willie."

Junior guard Cade Davis was the only upperclassman to score in the opening stanza, as the Elk City, Okla., native netted five of his 10 points in the first half.

The Sooners shut the door on UBC with a 21-3 second-half run, capped by a long-range make from Mason-Griffin. The Houston, Texas, native's 3-pointer was one of 10 second-half conversions from behind the arc for the Sooners on 16 attempts (.625).

On the night, OU shot 54.8 percent from the field (34-of-62).

Senior point guard Josh Whyte scored a team-high 21 points to lead the Thunderbirds, who compete in the Canada West conference of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national athletics organization. Whyte was a second-team Canada West all-star last year for a UBC team that finished 31-4 overall and 21-2 in league play en route to a spot in the CIS championship game.

The Sooners led 38-26 at the half after posting a 50.0 percent field goal performance (13-of-26). OU made it to the line 15 times in the opening stanza, but converted on just nine of those attempts (.600).

Gallon was a rebound shy of a double-double, while fellow freshman Andrew Fitzgerald added 10 points and five boards for the Sooners.

OU begins its regular season Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. CT against Mount St. Mary's at Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners have won 70 of their last 72 home non-conference games and need just two regular season victories to reach 1,500 in the history of the program.
