Oklahoma Postgame Notes

November 14, 2009 | Men's Basketball

Nov. 14, 2009

• No. 17/16 Oklahoma improved to 30-1 in its last 31 home openers with a 95-71 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at Lloyd Noble Center.

• The Sooners have won 23 of their last 25 season-opening games, with the only losses coming to Alabama (68-62 in New York City) in 2002-03 and Massachusetts (84-83 in Norman) in 1993-94.

• The Sooners won their 13th straight home contest against non-conference opponents, pushing their home record to 71-2 against non-league foes since Jan. 3, 2000.

• OU's starting five consisted of Tony Crocker, Tiny Gallon, Tommy Mason-Griffin, Willie Warren and Ryan Wright.  Outside of Crocker and Warren, the lineup boasted just one career start entering today's game (Wright started against Kansas on Feb. 23, 2009).

• Warren recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 11 assists (eight in the first half).  The 11 handouts broke his previous high of seven (twice).  Warren also had four rebounds and two steals.

• Five Sooners reached double figures, led by Steven Pledger's game-high 21 points off the bench.  The Chesapeake, Va., freshman was 8-of-9 (.888) from the field and 4-of-5 (.800) from behind the arc.

• Pledger's 21 points were the most by a Sooner off the bench in the Jeff Capel era.

• Gallon notched a double-double in his collegiate opener with 18 points and a game-high 15 rebounds (five on the offensive end).  Gallon was 6-of-14 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.

• Fitzgerald and Mason-Griffin reached double figures in scoring in their collegiate debuts, with 14 and 11 points, respectively.  Fitzgerald had five rebounds, while Mason-Griffin dished out four assists.

• OU outscored the Mountaineers 18-7 over the final 4:59 of the first half, including a 10-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer from Fitzgerald at the 2:38 mark.

• The Sooners hit seven of their final eight shots from the field in the opening stanza (.875) after converting on just 12-of-31 field goals to open the game (.387).

• OU hit its final three 3-point attempts of the opening half after missing its first six.

• Oklahoma's freshmen scored 67 percent of OU's points (64 of 95 points), including 37 of the team's 49 first-half points.

• The Sooners improved to 4-0 all-time against Mount St. Mary's, with previous wins in 1994-95 (91-67 in Norman), 1999-00 (94-41 in Oklahoma City) and 2007-08 (81-57 in Norman).

• The Sooners were 25-of-28 from the free throw line (.893), marking their highest free throw percentage (with a minimum of 10 attempts) since hitting 9-of-10 (.900) shots from the charity stripe versus Kansas (Jan. 14, 2008).

• The OU bench outscored the Mount St. Mary's reserves 43-20.
