Bradford Most Efficient Passer in NCAA History

November 11, 2009 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- It appears that Oklahoma's Sam Bradford will conclude his college career as the most efficient passer in NCAA history.

The junior, who had season-ending shoulder surgery, has announced his intentions to enter the spring NFL Draft. If that occurs and he does not play another snap with the Sooners, he will finish his career with a rating of 175.62.

The NCAA record is currently held by Boise State's Ryan Dinwiddie at 168.89. He played from 2000-03.

Of the current quarterbacks, Florida's Tim Tebow also has a mark that surpasses Dinwiddie's figure. His current career rating is 170.35.

Mike Brooks, a local researcher and OU football historian often utilized by the school's communications staff, said, "Moving the needle on that number is very difficult late in a career. It looks like Sam will have the record."

To be considered for the career pass efficiency record, a quarterback must have accumulated a minimum of 500 completions. Bradford had 604.

Bradford became only the third player in NCAA history to lead the nation in passing efficiency in back-to-back season's when he posted the top mark in both 2007 and 2008.

The Oklahoma City native led OU to back-to-back Big 12 titles and won the 2008 Heisman Memorial Trophy along with the Davey O'Brien Award.

Bradford completed 604-of-893 passes for 8,403 yards with 88 touchdowns and just 16 interceptions during his 31-game career. He set 15 OU records.
