XC: Men Move Up To No. 23

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team moved up two spots to No. 23 in the national rankings provided by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Rankings (USTFCCCA).

Last week the Sooners were ranked No. 25, which marked the first time in program history the team has received votes in the poll and the highest the team has ever been ranked.

“Our team is very excited about staying in the top 25. We are hoping to build off this and continue to improve as a team,” said University of Oklahoma head coach Martin Smith. “We have a great group of guys who are willing to do what it takes; that makes it fun.”

The announcement came one day after the team moved up one spot to No. 3 in the Midwest Region of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Rankings.

The Sooners are currently ranked fourth among Big 12 schools in the top 25. Falling behind in-state rival Oklahoma State (No. 2), Colorado (No.6) and Iowa State (No. 16).

Both the men's and women's teams are off until they compete in the final regular-season weekend of the year at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Oct. 17.
