NORMAN, Okla. -- OU's Switzer Center display area is undergoing renovations as officials from 1220 Exhibits are in Norman to install the latest upgrades to the facility. The work being done is mostly on the third floor, where individual accomplishments are highlighted.
Included in the installation is the addition of Sam Bradford's Heisman kiosk, a new Heisman wall and an expanded display of the other awards captured by Oklahoma players.
“This round of updates will dramatically change the look of the third floor,” said OU Senior Associate Athletics Director
Kenny Mossman, who is overseeing the project. “We have under-played awards such as the Thorpe, O'Brien, Lombardi, Outland and many others that our players have won. By expanding the third-floor display, all of those recipients and awards will get the attention they deserve.
“We're also aware that Sam's kiosk will be a fan favorite so we're glad to get that trophy on permanent display. The new Heisman wall will offer a unique perspective on the history of the Heisman and Oklahoma's relationship to the award, while also providing an in-depth explanation of the voting process.”
Bradford's kiosk, which will contain the school's copy of his Heisman Trophy, will be added to those that already exist for Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White.
The new Heisman wall, which will contain a video monitor featuring highlights of OU's Heisman winners, offers a perspective on the history of the Heisman and Oklahoma's relationship with the award. Every Sooner who has finished among the top 10 in Heisman balloting will be recognized.
Two new cases are being added to better showcase the 63 national awards garnered by Oklahoma players.
“We were very tight in our previous display and literally had some of the nation's most prestigious awards stacked two-deep,” Mossman said. “This new display gives those awards the attention they deserve. I think our fans will appreciate this presentation along with the explanations we've included about each award.”
The new display will be open to the public for the first time on
Thursday, Oct. 29. Please note that the Switzer Center is closed on home football Saturdays for recruiting purposes. For a complete schedule of open hours,
