FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Oklahoma indoor track and field team opened up its 2009 season Friday with a small group of athletes at the Arkansas Invitational. With competition inside the Randal Tyson Track Center, OU athletes accounted for two individual titles and eight top-three finishes.

Amanda Mayfield and the men's distance medley relay picked up the first wins of 2009 for the Sooners who are looking to improve on a men's sixth-place finish and women's seventh-place finish in the 2008 Big 12 Championships.
Mayfield topped all competitors in the women's 800-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 2:11.75, while the men's DMR team beat Big 12 foe Texas A&M and meet host Arkansas with a time of 9:56.42.

Latoya Heath recorded top-five finishes in two events highlighted by a second-place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 8.47. The Jamaican native also took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-2.50 (11.95).

Rob Sorrell opened the season with a second-place finish in the men's mile with a time of 4:11.61. The junior was the highest collegiate finisher behind an unattached athlete in Orey Smith while beating the second-highest collegiate athlete by 20 seconds.

Junior Zach Dawson finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.75 while Jalesa Walker took fourth in the women's version of the event with a time of 58.16.

In his first action on the Division I level, junior Jarell Warren grabbed bronze in the 600-yard run, finishing with a time of 1:19.99. The Newburgh, N.Y., native transferred to OU from Butler Community College.

Sophomore D'Andre Fisher placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.21, improving on his prelims time of 8.25.

The women's 4x400-meter relay rounded out the group of top-three finishers with a third-place finish in a time of 3:46.90.

OU's next action will be a return trip to Fayetteville on Jan. 23-24 for the Razorback Invitational.
