LINCOLN, Neb. — Oklahoma junior Jarell Warren captured his first individual title as a Sooner Saturday at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln. The junior college transfer from Newburgh, N.Y., topped all competition in the 600-yard run with a time 1:10.76.
Warren's time marked his second-best career time and the fastest in the Big 12 Conference this year. Warren recorded a personal-best time of 1:10.41 at last year's Iowa State Open while competing for Butler Community College. Prior to arriving at Oklahoma, Warren was a 2007 NJCAA Indoor national champion in the 600-meter run along with garnering NJCAA All-America honors in the event in 2008.
The win marked the second straight top-three finish for Warren after taking third in the 600-meter run at last week's Arkansas Invitational.
OU's only other competitor at the meet, sophomore D'Andre Fisher finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.20. The sophomore advanced to the finals as the eighth seed after recording a time of 8.19 in the event's prelims. Fisher was second in the third preliminary heat behind Nebraska's Lehann Fourie.
Fisher, Warren and the rest of the OU Track & Field program returns to action next weekend at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
