NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's volleyball team tries to extend its winning streak to six matches this weekend as the Sooner (6-4, 2-0 Big 12) travel to College Station, Texas to face the Texas A&M Aggies (5-6, 0-1 Big 12). Match time from the G. Rollie White Coliseum is set for 2 p.m. CT Sunday afternoon. Live statistics will be available on www.aggieathletics.com.
In Oklahoma's match against Missouri Wednesday evening, the teams battled in a defensive contest. The two squads posted a combined 196 digs on the evening -102 belonging to OU. Four Sooners tallied double-digit digs, three with 20 or more. The Sooners had 50 kills and nine blocks during the contest and won, 3-1.
Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu led OU with a team-high 13 kills. Ekwerekwu added five total blocks on the evening. Junior Bridget Laplante added nine kills, while freshman Caitlin Higgins contributed eight.
Senior Lacy Barnes tallied a career-high 22 digs, while Laplante also added 22. Higgins added a season-high 21 digs. Junior Taylor Harbster was the fourth Sooner to total double-digit digs with 13 on the night. Freshman setter Brianne Barker led the team in assists with 38 and had the highest hitting percentage on the team at.462.
Texas A&M dropped the first conference match of the year Wednesday evening at Iowa State. The Aggies are 5-6 on the year with wins against American, Siena, then-#16 BYU, Texas State and Southern Miss. Texas A&M has dropped three straight entering Sunday afternoon's contest, including a match to then-#20 San Diego.
Following Sunday's contest, OU continues its road swing at Baylor Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The Sooners return home to McCasland Field House Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. against Texas Tech.
