LUBBOCK, Texas - The University of Oklahoma women's volleyball won the 2008 Red Raider Round Up on Sunday morning by defeating the University of New Orleans, 3-1. The Sooners (5-4) dropped the first set to the Lady Privateers (6-3), 21-25, before taking the final three sets, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-21.

Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while freshman Brianne Barker earned the Best Setter award. Freshman Caitlin Higgins and sophomore Chrissy Disarro were also named to the all-tournament team.

Against New Orleans, Higgins led the way with 14 kills and nine digs, one dig shy of her third consecutive double-double. Ekwerekwu added 12 kills, bringing her total to 41 on the weekend. She also added five block assists in the win. Freshman Suzy Boulavsky saw action in every set and contributed a season-high 10 kills and four block assists. The Houston, Texas native led the team with a .450 hitting percentage during the match.

Barker posted her fourth double-double of the season with a match-high 43 assists and 12 digs. Senior Lacy Barnes led the defensive charge for OU with 21 digs. Junior Bridget Laplante tallied 10. Disarro led the blocking attack with seven blocks on the day. As a team, the Sooners out-blocked the Lady Privateers, 12-7.

On the weekend, Higgins led the Sooners with 42 kills. Boulavsky and Laplante netted 26, while Disarro had 22. Barnes led the team defensively with 40 digs, while Higgins added 33. Disarro and Ekwerekwu each had 18 blocks on the weekend to carry the Sooners. As a team, Oklahoma stifled opponents in the blocking game, 36-23.

Oklahoma returns home Wednesday evening to host Missouri in a 7 p.m. contest from McCasland Field House. Fifty cent hot dogs will be available as long as supplies last and the first 250 fans in attendance receive an OU volleyball license plate.
