NORMAN, Okla. - The Big 12 Conference announced its 2009 men's basketball schedule Thursday, a 96-game slate in which nearly 90 percent of the contests will be televised. All 16 of Oklahoma's games are set for television -- 10 of them will air on national networks and six on the newly branded, regionally syndicated Big 12 Network.
OU begins conference action Jan. 10 at Kansas State and concludes regular season play March 7 at home against Oklahoma State.
The Sooners' eight Big 12 home games will be against Texas (Jan. 12 on ESPN), Nebraska (Jan. 21 on ESPNU), Baylor (Jan. 24 on ESPNU), Texas A&M (Feb. 4 on Big 12 Network), Colorado (Feb. 7 on Big 12 Network), Texas Tech (Feb. 14 on Big 12 Network), Kansas (Feb. 23 on ESPN) and Oklahoma State (ESPN).
In addition to the Kansas State game (Big 12 Network), OU will play road contests at Texas A&M (Jan. 17 on ESPN), Oklahoma State (Jan. 26 on ESPN), Iowa State (Jan. 31 on Big 12 Network), Baylor (Feb. 11 on ESPN2), Texas (Feb. 21 on ESPN), Texas Tech (Feb. 28 on ABC) and Missouri (March 4 on Big 12 Network).
Oklahoma's home games against Texas and Kansas, as well as its game at Oklahoma State, are ESPN Big Monday matchups.
OU will play half of its league games against 2008 NCAA Tournament teams (Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas and Texas A&M). Three other contests will be played against teams that competed in the 2008 postseason NIT (Nebraska and Oklahoma State).
Kansas and Texas are the only two other schools with all 16 of their league games scheduled for national or regional television.
The annual Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, which this season will be played at Oklahoma City's Ford Center, will change days from previous years. Instead of taking place Thursday through Sunday, this year's event will be played Wednesday, March 11, through Saturday, March 14.
With Wednesday's announcement of OU's non-conference schedule, the Sooners' full 2008-09 regular season schedule looks like this (tip times will be announced at a later date, as well as non-conference television information):
