NORMAN, Okla.  – University of Oklahoma Athletics Director Joe Castiglione and head volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo announced the Sooners' 2008 schedule Wednesday morning.  A total of 13 home games at Howard McCasland Field House are featured.  In addition, the schedule includes 10 teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

OU hosts the Nike Invitational at McCasland beginning Friday, Aug. 29. The two-day tournament welcomes three 2007 NCAA Tournament teams in Michigan State, Wichita State and Cal Poly.

“We play a very tough non-conference schedule and expect it to help us prepare for an even tougher Big 12 schedule,” Restrepo said. “We hope some of the freshmen get a chance to play that opening weekend. It's important for them to adjust and be ready for the conference season.”

Following the home tournament, the Sooners travel to Los Angeles, Calif., to face Southern California, San Diego and Hofstra in the Trojan Invitational. The three-day event begins Thursday, Sept. 4, and wraps up Sunday, Sept. 6. Both USC and San Diego made it to the NCAA Tournament a year ago, with the Women of Troy advancing to the national semifinals. OU's final regular season non-conference tournament is set for Sept. 12-13 at Stephen F. Austin.  Including the host Ladyjacks and Sooners, Rice and Creighton plan to be in attendance.

“Obviously, Southern Cal is a team that made the national semifinals last year,” Restrepo added.  “They have very good chemistry and fundamentals and really make you work hard for every point. Playing a team like that will make us more prepared for our Big 12 schedule.”

Oklahoma opens the 2008 Big 12 slate at home against Missouri on Wednesday, Sept. 13 and travels to Texas A&M (Sept. 21) and Baylor (Sept. 24) before hosting Texas Tech on Saturday, Sept. 27 and Texas in the annual Red River matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

The Sooners hit the road again on Oct. 4 to face Iowa State and continue a two-game road stand the following Wednesday with an Oct. 8 matchup with Nebraska. OU returns home for a Saturday contest with Kansas State on Oct. 11 and against Colorado the following Wednesday, Oct. 15. The Sooners host Nebraska on Oct. 25, Baylor (Nov. 2), Kansas (Nov. 12) and Texas A&M on Wednesday, Nov. 22.  Oklahoma honors its 2008 senior class on Saturday, Nov. 22 against Iowa State.

During the 2007 campaign, Restrepo led the Sooners to an overall record of 22-10, including a 13-7 mark in the Big 12. Oklahoma finished fourth in the league and the regular season ranked 21st in the country.
