• With Sunday's win, Louisville will be making its 16th appearance in the Sweet 16 since the NCAA began keeping Sweet 16 records in 1975. Only four teams have been to more Sweet 16 appearances than Louisville (North Carolina 22, Kentucky 20, Duke 19 and UCLA 16; Kansas also has 15).
• Louisville owns an 8-3 record as a No. 3 seed and it is the third time the Cardinals reached the Sweet 16 from that position (1979 and 1982).
• Sunday's 78-48 victory by Louisville ties its largest margin of victory in an NCAA Tournament since the Cardinals defeated Kansas State 93-63 on March 16, 1968. Most recently, Louisville defeated Middle Tennessee by 25 points 81-56 on March 13, 1982.
• This was the 26th NCAA appearance for Oklahoma, which is now 33-25 all-time in the Big Dance. The Sooners have not advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since 2003, when they advanced to the Elite Eight.
• Oklahoma had its three-game winning streak snapped when playing in Birmingham. The last time that the Sooners played in the Magic City was 20 years ago in the 1988 Southeast Regional. At the time, Oklahoma won both of its games to advance to the Final Four.
• Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel moved to 1-2 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament and 1-1 at Oklahoma.
• Louisville's 78-48 victory was its sixth win of 30 or more points this season.
• Louisville has now won seven of its previous nine games in the NCAA Tournament, dating back to 2005.
• Louisville earned its first win against Oklahoma. It entered the game with an 0-3 record against the Sooners.
• Louisville limited Oklahoma to just 48 points on Sunday and it was the sixth opponent that the Cardinals have held under 60 points this season.
• Louisville has held 17 opponents to 60 or fewer points this season, including 15 of the last 24.
• Oklahoma is now 7-5 in second round games and 3-3 as a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
• This was the fourth all-time meeting between the teams and the second straight held in Birmingham, with Oklahoma holding a 3-1 lead in the series.
• Oklahoma's 22-point deficit at the half (44-22) was its largest halftime deficit of the 2007-08 season. Its previous largest halftime deficit was against third-ranked Kansas (40-20) on Jan. 14.
• The Sooners' 30-point loss tied their worst defeat of the season, which was an 85-55 loss at third-ranked Kansas on Jan. 14.
• Louisville is making its 34th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and is now 56-35 overall (four losses in consolation games) with two national championships to its credit - 1980 and 1986. Only five schools have played in the NCAA Tournament more times than Louisville.
• The Cardinals are now 11-5 all-time in the city of Birmingham, 5-2 in NCAA Tournament games.
• Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino is 34-11 in the NCAA Tournament and this is his 13th appearance. He also owns a 29-4 record when coaching a team with a higher seed. Pitino is also 9-2 in the BJCC Arena, including a 6-2 record in NCAA Tournament contests.
• This is the fourth time Louisville has been seeded third in the NCAA Tournament and is 8-3 as that seed. The Cardinals are also 35-6 in the tournament as the higher seed.
• Louisville turned in its best shooting percentage of the 2007-08 season. The Cardinals finished the game with a sizzling 59.3 percent mark from the floor, surpassing their previous high of 58.1 against DePaul on Feb. 12.
• Louisville is 79-6 when shooting 50 percent or better over the past nine seasons, including 10-0 this year.
• Louisville has shot less than 64 percent from the free throw line in each of its last 10 games (33.3 tonight).
• Louisville improved to 19-2 when leading at the half.
