TAMPA, Fla. -- Sophomore Chase Anderson struck out six batters and junior Trey Sperring had three RBIs in Oklahoma's 6-1 victory on Tuesday over South Florida at Red McEwen field.  The win improved the Sooners' overall record to 16-5 while the Bulls fell to 10-7.

In his fourth start of the year, Anderson delivered his best outing as a Sooner, striking out a season-high six batters.  Anderson (2-1), who struggled in his last start allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings against Washington State, limited the Bulls' offense on Tuesday to one run off five hits and two walks.

"This is another good win for this ball club," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway.  "Our offense gave us an early lead and Chase Anderson bounced back and pitched a solid game."

The Sooners were held to under 10 hits for the first time in six games with nine overall and were led by Sperring and junior J.T. Wise, who had two hits apiece.  Wise drove in the Sooners' run in the fourth and sophomore Aaron Baker drove in two runs.

OU jumped on top early with a RBI single off the bat of sophomore Aaron Baker.  After senior Mike Gosse led off the game with a double to right field, Baker drove a pitch up the middle of the infield to give OU a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, sophomore Jamie Johnson preserved the 1-0 lead after throwing out Trey Manz at the plate on what looked to be an RBI single for Jonathan Kosco.

The Sooners took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning after Wise's double to the gap in left-center field plated Baker, who walked to lead off the frame, from first base.

The Bulls narrowed the gap in the bottom of the sixth inning on Manz's RBI single and loaded the bases with two outs.  Despite ending Anderson's outing and loading the bases, South Florida squandered the opportunity to take the lead.

Freshman Ryan Duke was the first out of the Sooner bullpen and kept USF scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.  Freshman Antwonie Hubbard pitched the ninth and struck out two batters.  OU's relievers have been solid in the last five games with one earned run allowed.

In the Sooners' seventh, OU received an RBI from junior Trey Sperring on a bloop single to center field.  Following the third run, OU loaded the bases and USF issued a walk to Baker to give the Sooners a 4-1 advantage, but OU was unable to further extend the lead with the bases juiced.

USF starter Derrick Stultz (2-3) was handed his third loss of the season despite holding OU to two runs off five hits over six innings.

Oklahoma received another chance to add onto the lead after freshman Tyson Seng bunted sophomore Spencer Selby and freshman Elliott Blair to third and second base, respectively.  The sacrifice bunt by Seng brought Sperring back up to the plate and the Sooners' third baseman delivered a two-run single to right field.

The Sooners return to action on Wednesday, March 19 (6 p.m. CT) to close the two-game set with South Florida.  Following Wednesday's action, OU will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to battle the Cornhuskers in the Big 12 opener.
