SOONER BASEBALL CENTRAL
2008 OU Baseball Media Guide

NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior left-handed pitcher J.R. Robinson is featured in the ninth installment of SoonerSports.com's Baseball Newcomer Spotlights.

In preparation for the 2009 season, Soonersports.com will help fans get to know the new faces around the diamond at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

Robinson is a native of Burnaby, British Columbia and played the last two years at New Mexico Junior College.  The lefty was one of the nation's top hurlers as he led the country in 2008 in ERA (0.83), opponent batting average (.165) and hits per nine innings (5.24).  In addition, Robinson was selected in the 31st round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the last MLB Draft.

Throughout the rest of the semester, SoonerSports.com will feature one of the Sooners' 15 newcomers that will join a group of 18 letterwinners from the 2008 team that advanced to the Tempe Regional Finals before falling to then-No. 4 Arizona State.

Each spotlight will include an updated bio, Q&A session and videos of each player in action from the Red/White Series and a scouting report from OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.

Robinson finished his two years at NMJC with a 22-2 record and helped lead the Thunderbirds to a runner-up finish in the 2007 NJCAA World Series.  In addition, New Mexico won the conference title in 2007 and 2008.

Click the links to the right to watch footage of Robinson from fall practice and listen to Coach Golloway as he breaks down the newcomer's recruiting process, his progress throughout the fall, and his possible role in 2009.
