TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- University of Oklahoma cross country runner Kelly Waters ended her sophomore campaign Monday with a 93rd-place finish in the NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by Indiana State University, in Terre Haute, Ind.
Waters finished the 6,000-meter LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center in a time of 21 minutes and nine seconds. Waters 21:09 effort equaled her time from The NCAA Midwest Regional where she finished 10th.
Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won her third straight NCAA title with a course-record time of 19:28 while Washington took home the NCAA team title with four runners placing in the top-20.
This was Waters first trip to the NCAA Championships, where she finished 16th amongst 57 sophomores. Waters was also the 9th runner from the Big 12 Conference to cross the finish line. Waters was just one of two underclassman from the Big 12 to finish in the top 100.
Waters' advancement marked the fifth time in the last six years that the University of Oklahoma women's cross country program has been represented at the NCAA National Championships.
