NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team returns to action Sunday afternoon, hosting the Baylor Bears in a 2 p.m. contest from McCasland Field House. The Sooners (9-12, 5-8 Big 12) hope to continue winning after an upset of third-ranked Texas Wednesday evening in Austin. The Bears (14-8, 6-6 Big 12) are coming off a 3-1 loss at Iowa State.
The Sooners welcome all youngsters to Sunday's match for Sooner Kids Club Day. The first 250 fans through the door receive an OU volleyball drawstring bag. The team will also sign autographs following the match.
Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Baylor. 25-14. The Sooners hold a 15-3 advantage in matches played in Norman. The two squads met earlier this season in Waco with the Bears outlasting OU, 3-2.
Of the 15 players on the Sooners' active roster, a total of 12 saw action. Oklahoma was led by the freshman duo of Brianne Barker and Caitlin Higgins. Higgins led the team with 18 kills and 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. She hit .311 and also added a block assist.
Barker added 47 assists and 11 digs for her team-leading 11th double-double of the year. Barker led the team with a .417 clip. Sophomore Sarah Freudenrich had 12 kills to aid the Sooners' offensive attack. Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu contributed 10 kills, including the final strike in the final set.
Against the Cyclones, Katie Sanders led three Baylor players in double-digit kills with 11, while Briana Tolbert and Anna Breyfogle added 10 kills each. Allison King recorded a team-high 18 digs. The Bears recorded 10 total blocks, including four apiece for Taylor Barnes, Breyfogle and Sanders.
Following Sunday's contest, the Sooners travel to Kansas State Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. CST rematch with the 16th-ranked Wildcats.
